1) Not yet, but I'll be moving to BC sometime in 2007 (fingers crossed)
2) I haven't gone long distance here, so probably no. Or at least not right away

There's quite a group of Canadians here! :)

I'm currently living in Red Deer. I've just moved here from Winnipeg, MB, so I know quite a few cyclists from Manitoba, but hardly know any from Alberta.

Crazy Cyclist, wylie, and lost_in_wpg what type of cycling do you do, or have you done in the past?

ronan and Baz, have you heard of the Alberta Randonneurs? http://www.albertarandonneurs.ca/ I'll be cycling with them this coming season.

Baz, that trip sounds great! I just got back from 3 months cycling in Australia ... and I fell in love with cycletouring. :)

I don't do long distance cycling, usually just in the city and sometimes out of town

Yup, family of 4 riders (Mrs. rode lots years ago and is just again getting into it) 10 to 50 plus, we all ride when weather permits, nothern B.C. is home.

Spend the summers touring, 2 months of bliss, tailwinds and great weather, yea sure. The bliss part is right, we seem to attract bad weather and we all know about the wind!

I'm in Victoria, BC.

I'm just a new commuter who rides out to Langford every morning--that's as long-distance as I get!

Yes, Edmonton.

I like to ride long distances but the monotony of the prairies is a little hard on the psyche. I'm planning a solo trip to Vancouver in the summer of '08 though.

First, I'm wondering if there are any western Canadian cyclists here.

Second, I'm wondering if there are any western Canadian long distance cyclists here. :)

Yes to the first, I live in Lethbridge and ride in the Lethbridge/Calgary area. As for the second, my bike keeps telling me I should ride longer...

Western Canada ... it's Victoria over,
I just had a question about the long-distance riding. What would you consider long-distance? Anything over so many km? Or maybe something over so many days of riding?

Hi! OOps, forgot to see what your handle is.

My name is Draigh

Just got on board with Bike Forums, as I'm a newbie. But, I've been riding for a long time. However never any long distant stuff. However, I want to, so bad it hurts. Been thinking about Europe or some other continent. Even around BC for a month or two, but really, it dosn't matter I just want to ride my bike.
I'm 55 and not in the greatest shape, but I feel that I could handle long distant riding and if I'm not in shape now, I certainly will be by the time the trip is over. Actually, after looking at some of the people that are either drivers, or transit users, or even people who are close to my age, and it makesw me think that I really am in pretty good shape. (Because I really do ride pretty well everywhere I go)
Anyhow I live in Richmond, British Columbia, I have lots of time and resources to do what ever I want. So. If you happen to know or hear anything that sounds like a blast, drop me a line and lemme know.
Thanks
Draigh

I am from Winnipeg. Mostly commuting. Longest distance ride has been a century, although I would like to get into long distance touring. Just read 'off the rails' about two guys who cycled recumbents from Western Russia to Beijing. I also worked with a guy who ended up building a tandem recumbent and biking back from Tucson to Winnipeg, so lots of inspiration.

Machka - you used to work for MacDon? I used to work on Saulteaux, so it is possible that we may have commuted some of the same route, but didn't know it.

Yes to both questions. I'm from the South Okanagan in B.C. and I prefer spending my vacations touring by bicycle.

Born and raised here in Victoria BC.

Just getting back into cycling for the health benefits (as well as stress relief) so my milage is laughable at this point.

I can't get over how many cyclists we have from Victoria on here.

Canadian from Fort Kent, AB - a tiny hamlet of 250 souls out on the vast western prairie.

Long Distance? Hmm, yesterday I rode all around our village TWICE - (this amounts to about seven residential blocks).

Any other recumbent trike riders out this way?
