The fastest i have ever gone was down a paved road after some great single track, i was racing my friend back to his truck... When we got to his truck, my little cat eye computer said my max speed was 48mph. I dont think i would dare attempt that speed off road :D

My fastest ever speed was on a paved descent of 22%, 84km/h. But I've also ridden UP that hill a few times, so I think I've earned the right.

Me and two of my friends hit 32 MPH down a twisty road this weekend. We are going back to start at the top of the hill leading into the twisty road next week. Hopefully I will hit 46 mph like you guys....

Later.

I tilted my cateye out once, and that was over 60 mph.

The last time I remember going as fast as I could was about 3 yrs ago. I was 13 and had a bike that wasn't even 24 hrs old. I was racing some cars at about 25 mph and I turned around to see the cars behind me. The next thing I knew...WHAM!!!!! I crashed into the back of a Honda CRX. I took a big hit goin' over the handle bars(guys you should know what I mean),was blacked out for a few seconds and I knocked my left front tooth out. Not bad

I hit 40 mph twice off road. I have also gone so fast on a fixed gear that I could only see directly in front of me. This was absolutely stupid since it was down a four lane road about 3 am coming up on a exit ramp for I 95. I do not know how fast it was but it was the thing to do at the time.

It's been a while since I've had decent downhills. Fall '97 I was on a bike expedition in Scotland, where I did my personal highs.
On a very tricky, steep, twisty narrow tarmac road throughfarmlands, with cattle grids and all I did 47mph/75kph, on my full-suspension with cheap tires. Over 60kph the rear triangle starts to feel loose, so I didn't really push any harder.
Offroad I did 41mph/65kph, on the coolest gravel road I've ever seen, this was a one-off attempt as well. Very twisty, so quickly after checking out the ol' Cateye I had to adjust speed to be able to make the next (blind) corner, a great sensation.

Oh, and some 2 years ago at home in Holland I had a nice training. Thru winds and icerains I pedalled to the beach, with winds of 9bft. Typical speed at full power was some 11 kph. When I turned around I did 22 mph without pedalling and later on a long straight (100% flat) I totally spinned out, going well over 70kph/44mph for minutes on end. Simple kinks in the road that are normally done fullspeed, had to be braked for, to 50khp/31mph. One gets used to high speeds very easily, kinda dangerous with such winds...

Theres a great mountain range where I live called Mt.Dandenong ,the road there and back is ultra smooth and wide asphalt,we regularly hit some insane speeds,my best is 86 kph,and I still felt fairly safe even then.

I had a dream that I was doing 200 mph on my Trek...does that count...it was really rocky and dangerous, down the repack run....

The fastest i have ever gone was around 45mph on my mtn bike, with semi-slicks. I kept that speed for well over three miles coming down a rocky mountain canyon (8% grade, paved). I think i could hit 50+mph if i was on a roadbike.

Back in 1959 on my BSA 10-speed bicycle, with sew-ups and a strong tailwind on new asphalt and a steep downgrade, I kept up 70 mph for several minutes--according to the guys in the MG sportscar who were right behind me the whole way. My highest speeds on knobbies recently have been no more than 38-40 mph, but at age 62 and on dirt that'll have to do.
