Training & Nutrition - An update on the former boozer . . .

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Just in case anyone was wondering, I'm hanging in there. I've had just a couple setbacks, and in those cases have found that going to AA was absolutely the right thing to do. If I can make it through to the end of February without having a drink, I'll be able to say "two months sober,"--of course minus those two days I fell off the wagon. And on a really good note, my cycling is improving--little by little, but it's getting there. I plan to give the Solvang half-century a shot on 3/12, so we'll see how I do there. Wish me luck!

My best wishes, hope that the bike can pull you through, addiction destroys both the addict and his/her surroudings.

Hey Girl!

It's good to hear from you! Don't worry about the setbacks - you got right back on track, and having the strength to do that should prove to you that you CAN do this. Keep up the good work - and keep us posted!

WHEN you make it to the end of february...

A colleague of mine is in N.A....he was in bad shape but has since regained health, wealth, and most important, confidence and self esteem.

You are doing a very brave thing...

congratulations

Give yourself credit for doing what you're doing, and for bringing it to this forum. it'll give you more strength. I think when you start seeing drinking more & more from an outsider's perspective, it'll help you realize that you are choosing the right road. I quit drinking 11 years ago, and when I see the drunken behavior, the hangovers, etc. .... I'm very happy with the alternative. Keep it up.

One day at a time. That's all you can do.

My wife was an Certified Alcohol Counselor for ten years. She knew that most of her clients would never change, they were trapped in their lives and didn't see any reason to improve themselves. She could live with that, but it was in dealing with the children of those alcoholics that made the job difficult. She's now an elementary school teacher.

I found a non-denominational church that introduced me to spirituality in such a way, that I don't need to smoke or drink anymore. I just don't feel the need...It was like a miracle, one day I prayed and explained to God that I needed Him to remove that desire from me and it happened! They taught me that "happiness is something people and things give you, but joy comes from the inside." So, I just learned how to bring myself joy and peace from the inside.

You can do it and your a better person for doing it.

Years later, you will be able to look back at this and think about how small a challenge it was and yet it may have seemed insurmountable at one time. You will probably wonder why you ever allowed yourself to get roped in anyway. But most of all, you will be a living testimony, you'll be able to help pull someone else through as they aim to prevail over what you have already made it through.

I'm praying for your continued strength and focus! Keep on pushing. PUSH! You can do it! Girl, just keep pushing and you can make it through this.
