I work at a car dealership, (Pontiac,GMC) and we carry a GM lubricant called 'Dry slick' which is described on the can as a metal to metal lubricant that does not attract dirt or dust. Any idea if something like that would work well as a chain lube?

I think its similar to this stuff... http://webfiles.acuitysp.com/productimagesCentral/ZepImages/0106.gif

Well it might, im not positive though. A good chain lube does not get worn out right away, this is a problem with WD40 and other things of the like

Hey Jakey,

The GM product would probably be very similar or the same as any other aerosol dry lube such as the Zep's.
But you know, I'm not a hardcore environmentalist, chemist or even a trial lawyer, I'm just a mechanic, and believe me, I like stuff that works well, no matter what delivery/application method the product uses.
However......I have used the Zep's, and can tell you two things about it; First, it comes out of the can at "bug bomb" velocity, and will quickly fill your garage with extremely flammable and toxic vapors. Yes, you could spray it outside, but if you care in the least for your neighbor's lungs and brain cells, you might think twice.
Second, you really can't leave your chain on the bike and use a spray lube, unless you intend to lube everything else, like the frame, rims, tires, and whatever else is in the discharge path of the can. This is probably fine if you are prepping your cyclocross bike for winter riding, a la "Pam Non-Stick" spray.
Drip type applicator chain lubes have advantages, you know, you can put it exactly where you want it, and not where you don't want it, you get to keep some brain cells for other fun, you don't destroy your neighbor's shrubbery, etc.
