Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Anyone ever dislocate a kneecap?

Anyone ever dislocate a kneecap? It hurt like sum*****, then popped back into place five seconds later, it happened to me just rollin over in bed, after a pretty long fixed ride, i'm thinking it happended cuz my knee was fatigued. Anybody have any experience with this particular knee ailment?

you ever hurt it before? sounds like your ACL might be gone.. or.. thats what happens when your acl is gone.. it pops out of place all the time..but it coud be other things.. im no doctor..i do know the muscles have lots to do with what the knee cap is doing.. so maybe youre right

I don't think the knee is anything to worry about though.

I've dislocated mine twice. Once in soccer and once mountain climbing. It hurts like a mofo when goes out of socket and while its out and going back in, but it's never given me any real trouble or pain after that. On the downside, just like a shoulder, it gets easier to dislocate the more you do it, so be careful with it.

My brother was playing basketball last week and dislocated his knee. At first he thought only his knee cap. Busted ACL right apart. Surgery next week. Big time rehab.

in the process of ****ing up one it's pretty easy to **** up the other, but they aren't connected...
and while dislocations hurt (most recently, i dislocated my shoulder about a year ago) they hurt significantly less than a torn acl (little over a month ago, surgery in a week)

Something blew up in my knee years ago. Now I can manipulate the cartilidge around. I have to wiggle the knee back together several times a day. One day I will get insurance.

i had acl surgery.. i can guess when i broke my acl.. maybe 5 years before but not sure... so i can say, you dont know if you bust your acl... and with no acl.. yur knee pops and twists in all sorts of ways.. i got from what he was saying that his knee did something weird and he doesnt know what...

reading it again... im still putting my money on an acl he lost in some knee twist a while ago, maybe years, that he toughed out

I've had this happen several times, and just thinking about it makes my stomach churn. The first time it happened was playing basketball; my upper leg twisted one way, the lower leg went the other. The worst feeling ever. I've had it reoccur (on both legs, actually) several times from skateboarding, etc. For me it means many months of being slightly gimpy and unsure of how much stress I can put on it. At one point a doctor told me they could do surgery to tighten up the muscles that hold the kneecap in place, or I could just live with it and see how it goes. Strengthening the quads is supposedly a good way to keep things in line, so hopefully putting in miles on the bike will keep them in good shape.

It's something I live in constant fear of, though.

it happen to me when i was 17yrs old dismounting the bike from the rear, like jumping over a johnny pump. my foot remained in the toe strap, my body twisted to the left,when i landed i knew something was wrong when i no longer was saw my knee cap where it normally is! it was cock all the way to the left ouch! needed a cast for 5wks to heal.
