General Cycling Discussion - "Waiter, there is a fly....."

Spring is here, well it is where I live, and with it millions of flying insects...
I must have swallowed at least 5 big ones yesterday, including one that tasted like what it last sat on. I've now taken to cycling the next few weeks with my mouth firmly shut.

Gross.
Only have swallowed a few gnats here so far, but I really hate it when a huge insect like a bee flies into my helmet or glasses and makes that awful "thud" sound.

We took our 6th grade classes to a local nature park, where the ranger who gave us the tour claimed that one insect had the amount of vitamins and protein that you find in an entire power bar. So, keep up the eating (swallowing) and you will have no need for extra nourishment on your bike travels. Sort of like a drive-in restaurant with no charges. Personally, I tend to swallow 4 or 5 on some rides.

I had a bee fly straight into my helmet slot and sting me on the head. The next day my forehead swelled up so bad that I looked like a refugee from a Star Trek convention! Had to go to the doctor to get the swelling down. I guess it would have been worse if he flew in my mouth.

I hate when your sucking wind and a little mayfly goes in the mouth hits you right in the back of your throat ... sometimes there's no choice but to swallow it.
I had a small moth get stuck right on my eyeball, wings flat across my pupil. Good times ...

Insects are quite high in carbohydrates and protein.

You have your energy food provided for by nature, should be glad.

I'm tempted to get a respro mask, particularly for evening rides. You'd think the blighters would respect the fact that I'm a vegetarian. ;)

Yep, the flies are out here too, and I've already had to spit out a few. Once, one of those flying ants when down y throat and I coughed it up. One of the good things about those winter spinning classes- no flies!

And the season is just beginning- I can't wait to see what delicacies await for the summer.

With a whistle clenched between my teeth, the opening is smaller for bugz.

With all the wind here, there's been no bug problem yet....but listening to you guys I think I'm going to make a mask of mosquito netting to tie over my nose and mouth.....or my whole head...or maybe even a full-body version. Hmmmmm.....

I told my dad about this thread, and he suggested the use of salt tablets.

It won't stop you swallowing insects, but it will add some seasoning. :D

I once got a bee up my nose. It was the most disgusting sensation I have ever felt. Fortunately, I was able to blast her out before she stung me.
