"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - Where do you park the car on Race Day?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Just curious what the differing opinions are on this seemingly meaningless thought-point.

I've found that roadies put thought into every aspect of the game. Let's see where you go with this one.

Don't go off topic. We don't have time to read of your entire race day routine. We'll add to this later in another thread.
For now, just stick to WHERE and WHY you park where you park.

For the sake of clarity, this is for a Criterium. Not a Road Race.

Here's mine: Within a block of the course, find a bank. Presuming the race is on a Sunday, I park underneath the drive thru window overhang. Out of the sun. Out of the rain.

I don't get it?

The races I've been to have a parking lot established for all the racers. I guess if they did'nt I'd pick a spot away from the action so I would'nt get blocked in.

When possible I park within sight of the race so I have an idea of what's going on, if things are on time or how far behind they are. Also, I try to park under a tree or in some shade to keep my car as cool as possible because there is nothing worse than finishing a hard race and having to drive home in a 110 degree car.

huh? I park in the car park provided or the street. My bank is open on Sundays.

Next to the truck or bus of the hottest team in the event, then look for crums on their food table, sometimes they will invite you over for a bagel.

If the race is within 20 miles or so, I'll ride to it. Store the backpack when I get there. No parking stress.

Otherwise, parking is a common sense thing depending upon the day and location. One probably shouldn't park in people's driveways or front yards.

Out of the rain.
Is your car made of paper or something?

Paper car? No.
Snow covered and ice-encrusted? Yep.

My wife usually drives me to the events and she parks where ever she wants to park. :D

The two crit venues I frequent (one is a drag strip and the other is an Olympic aquatic/rowing centre) have off street parking.
