This is the 13th time I see this. So I can't ignore it and have to say your spelling is perfect and you're full of something else.

Well, I didn't see it, so sorry, but I enjoyed it. Well, in the sense that it was funny. I'll never ride my bike to NYC now. What cracks me up is that more bikes aren't stolen...

I haven't seen that in a while. Still a classic when he plugs in to the city power grid.

I had not seen it before, therefor I enjoyed it. A valid point was made, no matter how many times that this video has been posted. One can't be too careful how one secures their bike. The public is apathetic.

I dunno. I watched, it was stupid. It wasn't like a covert video recording, and the guy approached the bike each time with his pant leg rolled up. Looked to me like some guy that locked his bike up, lost his keys, and was retrieving his bike. For the record, 5 bikes of mine have been stolen from my garage, school bike racks, and in front of stores. In the last case, they weren't locked up.

It was locked up in your garage?

To answer your question, no, the bikes in my garage were not locked up. That's why they're gone. The door was pried open in the night, and 2 bikes were stolen. Expensive ones too. But I don't plan on letting that happen again. I've got a tandem, a custom FS, 2 hardtails, and a 24" BMX all locked up inside my garage right now. One padlock on the door, and 3 cable locks between the others. And the meanest little Papillon to protect them all.

Yeah, but the Neistat brothers are more about getting people riled up than presenting facts or actually trying to do anything. Here's a particularly interesting writing about an interaction between them and somebody who was hosting a movie of theirs, this one about the iPod's battery:

Have never seen it, so your post was worth it. It was shocking how people turn a "blind eye" to the obvious. I have witnessed a theft myself on one occasion in New York City. I saw someone walk up to a locked bike (improperly locked. The front wheel was not locked), take the front wheel and walk away. I never gave it a thought. It looked like the guy owned the bike. Ten seconds later, a girl came out, looked at her bike and said "On my God, someone stole my wheel". The Video is not far from reality.

I know all those areas and there are THOUSANDS of people passing by each day. There must have been at least a couple of hundred people at the World Trade Center who saw what he was doing. It goes to show you that concept of locking your bike in front of everyone is bunk! Doing that means your bike will be exposed to many more crooks thus increasing its chances of getting stolen. I've been saying for the longest that you do NOT put the bike out in the open or on a bike rack but a good strong fence away from the public.

I disagree. The important thing with a security device is often how long it takes to break it. With a good bike lock, you may be looking at something on the order of 10 minutes. (this may be an exaggeration) A criminal looking for bikes in a public area knows that no random person will stop them, but the owner might come back. In a crowded area, that means that for those 10 minutes, any one of thousands of people might be the owner. This video ignores this fact altogether. I think it's an important point.

In a secluded area, the criminal has more things in their favor. Depending on the area you choose, they might be able to just leave the bike whenever anyone walks by. If they have a lookout, your whole seclusion defense is almost completely shot.
