BMX - Found this at a thrift shop - worth anything?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I stumbled across this little GT Mach One BMX bike in a thrift, and bought it on a lark. It is made from 4130 chromoly, and seems to be a quality built bike. The trouble is, I know nothing about BMX bikes. It looked cool though, and for $5.00 I took a chance.

How'd I do? Any idea how old or good it s? Might it be worth something, or was in a thrift shop for a reason? :)

I've seen kids race on worse bikes. I'd say you got an excellent deal, but $5 is awfully cheap. Have it checked out by someone in the know, and then ride the crap out of it. If you're not gonna ride it yourself, or don't have a future champ running around your house, give it to a neighbor's kid, or some needy kid, and reward yourself with a bit of good karma. Since it was so cheap, do a good deed instead of turning it over for profit. Sorry to be preachy.

Now, on to your questions. I don't know much about BMX, as they've changed the rules since I last rode one 20 years ago. I do see what looks like a threadless headset, 3 piece cranks, decent pedals, and the red brake makes me think it's probably a Shimano DX. Doesn't help with the age, but that's decent spec, and certainly not an entry level bike.

Yeah, you got a deal. I am not very bmx (racing) knowledgable for specific bikes, but the cranks look to be tubular, the included chain tensioners look solid, and the 4130 sticker may mean a full chromoly frame.

That bike was no less than $200.00 new, but that may even be closer to $300 or more new.

The wheel set is the only thing that looks a little bit lacking to me, but it is hard to tell from the photos.

the wheels are mx22's, and probably unsealed, but for 5 bucks, thats a deal.

I just wiped the dirt off the wheel label - it reads "Wienmann ZNCX"

Thanks for all the replies!!

i heard that profile designed the gt cranks . if those are the ones then they would be worth alot.

No, those aren't the Profile ones. The Profile ones look (and are) exactly like the current design of Profile cranks and do not have a pinch bolt. But, those look like halfway decent tubular chromoly cranks... maybe WITH a sealed bottom bracket?

For five bucks, who gives a damn?
