Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Anybody running cross-levers?

does your lever pivot so that the brake line runs out opposite of the lever similar to a MTB lever?

i bought these from IRO, and whoever engineered these designed it so that the cable runs the opposite way... instead of having a clean line i have this stupid loop :(

i think you have them set up incorrectly. if they are in-line brake levers, they are designed to push on the housing instead of pulling on the cable. you can anchor the cable on the side you have them running from now and have them enter the "right" side.

Yup, Msngr is correct. BTW, Nice ride. Love the blue Chain ring bolts. Is that fixed?

EDIT- here's a pic of CX levers on my fixie in progress. This shows the correct way of mounting the levers. My housing is a little screwed up, FYI.
You do get that little cable nub sticking out, if it bothers you.

Isn't using derailleur cables for brakes bad? Do you use derailleur housing as well? Any problems?

ah, stupid me, got it correct. thanks for the pic! not sure if thats derailleur cable & jacket or not.. i just ripped whatever i found from when i stripped the bike

the blue bolts came with the crankset... all the rsx components had some aqua sea blue theme going on.

its running 46x17 fixed that happens to fit right in the dropouts... i've a 17t freewheel but i havent threaded it on

What did you use for spacers on the bolts?

the bolts happened to be just a slighttt tad too long, so i stuck a layer of electrical tape between the spider and the chainring :D (i wanted to finish the build fast)

the bolts still arent completely tight.. and ill need to buy some real spacers because the chainline is about 1 or 2mm off... ideas?

Yes. Derailleur cable typically has longitudinal wire under the casing, brake cable has a spiraled metal sheath. Derailleur cable may not hold up under braking. http://sheldonbrown.com/gloss_ho-z.html#housing

I had an LBS try to sell me d-cable as brake cable one time.

I would say that if you were riding SS, then using shifter/derailleur housing/cable is not a good idea. However, for the amount of breaking on a fixie, you should be fine. If you really pull hard on the break with shifter stuff, it might very well snap, but you'll be headin over the bars by that point.
