so i pulled into a parking garage at my college today and the clearence said 9'6". My car with bike is 8'5" so i went in, but to my suprise, the clearence inside is not that all the way around. some parts of it are 7'7", so of course, my bike hit the ceiling. man i love how ccsu works. Im just happy that I was going very slow when this happened.

This sucks! Trunk your bike, or better yet, back seat seat it :)

I would make them pay, as their clearance figure is mis-leading.

Did it even do any damage? and what parts of the bike hit the ceiling?

I like my rear mounted bones rack too, but when you put three downhill bikes on it, the weight is a little much for the rack. Ive found that with the three bikes there, over time, the trunk begins to be pulled off the car, creating a little gap between the car and the trunk. If this never happened, i would have stayed with the trunk rack. Also, mounting some bikes onto the trunk was a pain, i.e. multiple freeride hardtails (steep top tubes make the tires hit the handlebars and what not), other odd frame designs. So rather than buying the three top tube bar adapters, i scored a free roof rack from a friend, all i had to pay for was the tray and fit kit.

Nothing was even damaged, the bike hit once i was leaving the garage on the other entrance/exit. Luckily ive got a sun roof so was able to look up to see how much clearance i had (not enough). I saw that it was getting tight so i was crawling my way out until i heard a small bang. Im so happy i got that civic ex with the sunroof!

Much to be said for the hitch mounted racks

if i had a little more powerful of a car, i would have gotten a hitch and rack because the i could also tow snowmobiles. I dont know how well a civic would do towing things like that.
