Just wanted to get some feedback on this issue. I have an MTB and it takes about 1 hour to do my 11.1 mile route. I have a Road bike and if I extend the route , I can cover 13.5 miles in one hour. The overall effort seems to be about the same.

My goal is to try to exercise for 1 hour each day at least 6 days a week. Do you think it really matters which of the 2 bikes I use? The slower bike is nice in the winter since it has slicks, fenders, a lot of reflectors, lights, etc. The road bike is better forthe dry days.

I also have a recumbent but have not found the distance yet for the one hour time limit. I live in a very hilly area so this is a major part of my rides.

Thanks for the input.

I think it makes no or very little difference. Effort required and time on the bike for me are the crucial factors, not type of bike.

The exercise value depends on how hard you work for that hour, not how many miles you cover. Definitely use the bike with fenders and lights in bad weather. It'll make you appreciate the light road bike when good weather arrives.
