Will Shimano XT M-765 Hydraulic Dual Control Levers work with Hayes HFX-9 Carbon Cailpers? Also can Hayes 6 in. rotors work in place of center-lock rotors? I don't have center-lock wheels but I am considering buying XT Calipers with my dual control levers. If I do get dual control levers with Hayes HFX-9 calipers will I need certian brake fluid or can I use DOT 4?

My head is going to explode after reading that, but heres a shot at it...

Centerlock is centerlock ONLY though I understand maybe Chris King has some sort of adapter?

The Dual Control levers are for Shimano hydro's only and are designed to use mineral oil (at least in my understanding, but I have the V version)

Hayes systems as I recall all use DOT4

Ok... I'll take a stab... You have to use Shimano calipers with your dual control levers... On the other hand, you do not have to use centerlock rotors with the XT hydros.. You can use any normal 6" rotor. :)

as far as the centerlock/hayes debate... it's a moot point because he doesn't have centerlock hubs! That's what he's getting at. He wants to use his standard ISO disc hubs & rotors with the XT brakes. Yes you can do that. As far as using a 6-bolt rotor on a centerlock hub, there's an adapter but it's not needed here.

doesn't matter... the point is that he can use any rotor with any caliper as long as said rotor will mount on his hubs... He wants to use Hayes rotors on a 6-bolt hub. It will work. The question is whether the levers will work fine with the hayes calipers.

EXACTLY right on the rotors.
As for the rest:
The Shi*No levers will not work with his Hayes calipers

Ok, so I was right... I didn't think you could interchange the levers between different brands of rotor & caliper. That's what sucks about hydraulic discs. You have to use THEIR levers, not ones you choose. So yeah, the poster above will just need to get XT calipers since he has dual control levers. However, he's more than welcome to use any rotors on his 6-bolt hubs. However, I'd suggest the Hope Gothics, Avid Wavy's or Avid Octagonals. All of the above perform better than your average Hayes or Avid rotor. Plus they just plain look better. The Gothics look like a saw blade :p

pimping the rotary saw blades on his wheels. :p The only thing left is for him to post a link where to purchase said rotors.
