Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - raleigh sprite

ok so as some of you may know i broke one of my drop-outs on my old srpite. this is one of my all time favorite frames (comfort wise). I got someone who is willing to replace my drop-out with track ones, and put canti brakes on the fork. I'm gonna strip the paint and paint the tubes cream and the luggs racing green. I'm then gonna build the bike up as a fixie touring frame. decked out with baggins bags from rivendell and a nice nitto front rack. sound like fun?

Sounds expensive. Who's doing the work?

toby at hottubes, it's cheaper the getting a new bike from jonnycycles, who by the way is verry nice and i will be ordering a bike from sometime soon. oh and this will be a year project, basicaly be done by next year

anyone have any recomendations for paint?

Sounds like your heart is set already on following through with this project.
Recently my bro called and told me he had broken the drive side dropout on his DeRosa road racer. We discussed options such as replacing the one or both dropouts. After a few minutes of this I asked him how many miles he had put on this fabulous old race bike. He calculated for a while and came back with the figure of minimum 120,000 miles.
I advised him to kiss the old girl goodbye and hang her on the wall. Reluctantly, he concurred.

The moral of the story.
Bikes are engineered machinery. Unless there has been some unanticipated stress on one specific part of a frame to cause a specific failure, a failure of one part generally indicates that the rest of the unit is near the end of it's wear cycle.
