On my commute home tonight, I met up with the plow guy
that clears my pathway to work
the city has really came thru this year to clear the pathway after every significant snowfall
told him about the improvement and personally thanked him
He was quite happy about the compliment, (pretty rare city workers get Positive feedback about their work from the public :) )

Dude, Isn't it great? I live out by COP and work downtown they've been scraping the river pathway for a couple of years now, I've noticed this winter that they've extended the cleaning quite a bit, I can easily get in a nice 50 or 60 K weekend winter ride without having to get off the paths. I always give those guys the thumbs up and also sent the city an e-mail thanking them as well.

Yeah I'd noticed the plows seem to be a little more efficient on the Bike paths this year. Or maybe it's just a timing fluke - not sure. I wish they'd plow further west, past Shouldice, so I could avoid riding on roads even more.
Whenever I see the plows I always go out of my way to give them a friendly wave. They sure make the commute easier.
Now if we could just get our residential streets plowed once in a while...

This reminds me of a funny pathway story from my area. Quite a few years ago, in Sun Valley and Ketchum, Idaho, some new paved pathways were put in. The city government figured that when winter arrived, the local residents would use them for cross-country skiing. They were quite surprised when, after the first snowfall, the phones at the city offices started ringing with citizens asking when the paths would be cleared of snow. (Note that there are lots of cross-country ski trails in the area as well.) Now they clear the paved paths in the winter. My home town clears our paths as well.

Ralph must be a biker! In Toronto we don't get bike trails cleared by city workers, unless they do it by mistake.
