BMX - brakes? help! please!

okay, i bought a trek TR30 last summer and have hated it since, it wont stop flatting.i actually( after the third tube) took off the rim strip to look for anything!(nothing) and of course i checked the treads for debris but that didnt help! i put on a new tube pump it up and its flat in half an hour! i checked the valve stem,rims,treads, size and nothing is visibly wrong! even bought tubes from diferent supliers at diferant stores! nothing! still flat!
but to the problem on the title. the brakes it comes with ive never seen before. calipers with two brake lines? im used to linear pulls and disc's! they stop great. this one takes half a block if i squeeze white knuckle! is this normal? the guy i bought it from said it was. but he wouldnt let me return it the next day! i hate this bike! no offense but i wish i could afford another mountain bike! trek has soured me to BMX! advice!?

(p.s. always make sure you test ride a bike PLENTY before you buy it!... duh!)

Have you checked the tube to see where the leek is coming from? That might give you some idea as to where the problem is on the wheel. Or it could be you're getting pinch flats? In which case keep your tyres hard and put plenty of powdered weightlifters chalk in the tyre.

Ubrakes with a gyro take a while to get used to if you're used to V brakes, part of the problem is that you probably don't have chrome rims, chrome makes u brakes work tons better.
Get some diatech hombre brake pads, they're green and stop much better than stock pads.
Keep your pads and rims clean and if all else fails take your bike to someone who knows how to maintain BMX bikes. IME LBS's know diddly about BMX.

Use duck tape instead of rim strips, a couple of layers should do it.

Probably the tire tubes....replace them or buy a new bike.

first of all, if you want to ride the tour de france, buy a trek. if you want to ride BMX, buy a haro, or S and M or even a specialized. I ride a redline flite, i love it. second take all the crap that comes with it off. take the brakes, the headset, the pedals. do the research and buy parts that were made for adult bikes. you seem to know about quality parts, why would you buy a pair of $30 brakes from oddysey, or primo. i stripped that crap off and went straight to the avid single digit ultimates. $110 a piece, but one finger stops me nice. i am scared to pull both on full power.

from what i have seen, bike companies that are not in the BMX biz think that they can make some crap to make money, and then sell it to some 13 yearolds. and since the whole thing is geared towards a deomgraphic with less money (teens) there is not incentive to make nice high quality parts, unless the company's a BMX company, like redline, or any number of small manufacturers.

My advice. treat this bike like you would a nice bike of any other genre. buy nice parts and they will be nice to you.
