Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

i weighed in all the advice given to me on my previous posts, and because of costs, looks, and beefyness
i picked a banshee morphine. i'd like you guys to give me youre opinions on how to build it.

here's my idea

nixon or sherman fork-$800?
dee-max or trailpimp wheelset-$600ish
any 8 inch rotor disks (saint, methinks)-$170ish a wheel
MRP or E-13 bashguard-???
singlespeed cassete( for a while, anyways)-???
any treads 2.5 and up... etc???

wow, im gonna be poor for a long time! and it'll probably take a year to buy the parts!
so tell me ideas, thoughts, rabid disagreements... anything you think will help me build my urban/freeride bike!

i would go
Sherman
Trailpimps
nay to the saint and go with hopes
e-13 without thinking about it
gusset single speed with chain tugs
tires of your choice i would suggest either holy rollers or krads

That will be one heck of a bike i cant wait to see pics of it!!!

I would go

Sherman
Dee-max
Saint maybe, other guy said hopes
e-13 without a doubt
Singlespeed...I dunno, I'm a big fan of having something to bail out on. If your leaning more towards freeride, maybe a cassette would work being that you would have to ride to where your going.
Tires...I dunno

This is going to be a bada$$ bike, I thought about going with the morphine but figured out it was WAAAY to much bike for Cen-Tex so I opted for the Surly. You have made an excellent choice frame wise.

You dont need hopes for anything but DH, Hayes would do fine...and arent proprietary. Id get somebody to build up your own wheelset as this years Dee-max might be weaker due to less spokes. But what are you using this for....you really cant ask for other peoples advice because its all personal opinion.

You do realize that they have a 165 mm rotor right? And the morphine is about the sickest freeride hardtail there is why not build it with high end stuff.

Because the reason Hopes are high end is because of the modulation of the brake.....no more power than Hayes, and less power than the Magura Gustav. Also heard tons of bad things about the Hopes from people who dont know how to set them up, Hayes are MUCH easier.

I do agree with hayes being easier and sufficient for the bike. Heck if it was mine i seriously wouldnt care about brakes unless its on my dh rig i could care less if its a v brake just as long as it slows me down a little bit:)....but then again hopes on a morphine would be hott...

If your gonna build it build it tough. Sherman, 24 inch wheels with 3 inch gazzaloddis, e.thirteen. I'd get saint disks bot not saint hubs, cuz you don't want to ride rapid demise.

can you do saint disk without saint hubs? i

We want pics of the frame, until then, it does not exist.

Kona, have we seen pics of you? If not, by your token, you don't exist :o

Back on-topic:

Why not get a Z150 or 66RC?
You can get an adapter to run Saint discs on the deemax hubs.
If all the brakes are about the same in terms of power, why not just pick whichever looks coolest (of course get a pimp rotor for them)
For the bashguard, might want to get one custom-made?
Flawless is a smaller company that machines end-caps and bash guards (at least from what I've seen), they look pretty sexy too. There's a guy on Pinkbike who runs it.
Sure, the E13 is tough, but there's gotta be a point where more toughness is kinda un-needed... ?

Im using hopes on both my bikes, hopefully going to purchase another one soon and the power of them is amazing, the only problem i have with them, is they are a little bit on the noisey side, but apparently this goes away as they bed in more and more..
