I too have a cyclocross bike(gt zrx)with avid 1.0 canti's,the only time I need to pull the wheel out is when I have a flat,with there being no air in the tyre it comes straight out ,and then on putting it back I inflate it once it's in position again ,as I have the brake block/rim clearance set very close this is the only way I can do it quickly...keep the canti's they rock esp..with the koolstop red/grey thin line pads no squeel,just awesome power and modulation on the front brake.!!! cheers Buddy.

Long live conventional cantilevers, your Avids are great brakes! Those kool stop red pads are absolutly the best!
Remember with vee-brakes (direct pull cantilevers) you have to change the brake levers. Vee-brakes require Vee-brake levers, you never should mix them! Injury or death could result.

I have a Cyclocross ride that came with avid center pull cantilever brakes. I'm looking for an option that would be more aerodynamic and easier to use during wheel removal. I was considering using BMX size V-Style brakes because of their short pull ratio. Any thoughts or experience?

Somehow aerodynamic and cyclocross don't go together. How fast can you go on a cross bike in mud while jumping over an obstacle? Get real.

As for the V-brakes, unless you are using barcons, STI/Ergo levers aren't compatible with V-brakes. Stick with the cantis.
