I posted this in the classic forum with no luck. Maybe someone here can help. I have an old Columbia Twosome Tandem that I cannot reference the serial number for a date code based on the charts at Old Roads. The number is located on the head tube and is "5 066 1503". Any Ideas??
Thanks

Is that the only number stamped on the frame?
The reason I ask is I believe Columbia's SNs are all stamped on the right-rear drop-out and are sometimes obscured by the axle bolt. If the frame has been repainted the numbers can sometimes be buried under paint. Also, if memory serves, Columbia's tandems & bikes had serial numbers that began with two letters followed by five numbers, e.g., TR 06587, NU 03456 [minor edit]
Of course, once you find the number there's a pretty good chance that it won't be included in the standard serial number lists so you will probably need to contact Columbia's current owners to see if they have a record of it. However, I should note that the last person we corresponded with on the forum trying to decode the serial number / year of manufacture for a Columbia tandem bought on Ebay was unable to reach Columbia via Email to make an inquiry so I suggested they give them a call @ (413)562-3664 between 8am and 5pm EST. Never heard how that came out....
I checked the dropouts, bottom of the frame, etc. I'll admit, very quickly since I already had found a number. I will look closely at the right rear dropout and see if one is hidden there. If all else fails I will see if Columbia can supply any info. I'll post any replies or answers from Columbia.
