Mountain Biking - bracket for cantilever brake on rock shox?

Does anyone make a bracket that would enable me to attach a cantilever brake hanger on a rock shox? There is a hole already drilled (for the reflector I believe), and I was wondering if I could attach the cable hanger there. I really don't want to use v-brakes. I know I'm stubborn, but just prefer cantilever brakes.

My older Cannondale came with a Rock Shox Indy shock originally along with cantilever brakes. They used what appears to be a V brake booster to mount the two arms of the cantis on. The brake wire then fed through a hole above.

Call RS up and see what they have. The old Indy's brake mounting holes look standard enough and my newer RS has the same holes on each fork leg. The holes may just have filler screws in them.

Are you suggesting that I buy one of those brake stiffeners and mount the cable end there? I guess that would make sense.

Interestingly, I have another bike that has one of the first gen. RocShox, and the cable boss is built in. They must have dropped that once v-brakes became popular.

Just wondered if I was understanding you correctly.

I was talking of the same thing on your old RS that was on mine. I went to the closet and looked at it again, as well as my v brake booster on the newer fork and it was different.

You could use one of two different mounts depending on the bike. If your fork has the center hole in the support arch you could use one type or if it doesn't you could use another type designed for use at the headset.

Shipping prices are pretty painful from these outfits. This is one item that your LBS might actually be able to look up and save you a few bucks. One of mine uses JB Importers and I'm sure they would have something like that.

Oh yeah, RS quit making those kits a few years ago for use with cantis.

Warning!

You cannot use a headset cable stop with suspension. You NEED to get the stop from RockShox or another company that mounts to your fork crown.

The reason being, if you use the headset stop, the effective length of the cable will change as the fork lowers move through their suspension travel. As you compress the fork, you'll create slack in the cable, i.e. no stopping!

Try sending RS an e-mail directly, or try to do a search on the web for bike parts. There was a company that specializes in small misc. parts for bikes, but I can't remember the name of the company. Maybe someone out there knows it. Try posting this in the "Bicycle Mechanics" thread.

If you can't find one, you may be forced to switch to linear pulls (V-Brakes)
