2005 Specialized Hardrock Pro.
Just picked it up this afternoon and tooled it around my neighborhood for a few minutes. Supposed to be a bit nicer this weekend and I plan on breaking it in. Thanks for all the input/advice in the $500MTB thread and other threads. :D

Just out of curiosity, did yours come with BB5's or BB7 brakes? The website and all the spec sheets say BB5's but mine had BB7's on it, so I got a free upgrade. I guess the BB5's weren't available when the first run of Hardrock Pros were being produced. If you're not sure how to tell the difference, the BB7's have pad adjustments both inboard and outboard.. the BB5's only have the outboard one. Also the BB7's say BBDB on them.

I remember seeing a couple threads where you had posted about the upgrade. I wasn't as lucky and I got the BB5s.

They're not bad. The BB7's are just a bit better and easier to adjust. You could always upgrade later if you wanted.

I got my 2005 when it first came out, so that's probably the reasoning behind it. The BB5's aren't horrible by any stretch of the imagination. The BB7's have an extra pad adjuster, but don't appear to be THAT much of an upgrade over the BB5's. I think you'll be happy either way. I've had mine for about 6 months or so and I love it. :)

I've been happy with mine... Good sub-$700 bike in my opinion. I wouldn't use it for any hardcore XC, but it does the trick for the mild trails around here.

Those $500 bikes will XC hardcore if you do it right. I raced a Trek 4500, stock, twice. One of the races was very high big and intense. The only thing that did the bike in was drops. After that stuff started breaking. That Spec Hardrock should take a good beating, just take care of her. No one expects a car to run well for the its lifetime without regular maintenance, smae with bikes.
