I couldn't find a strictly Kung Fu movie thread and, having just seen Master of Flying Guillotine for the third or fourth time, I felt I had to start one. I remember watching these movies(along with Godzilla offerings) every Saturday as a kid growing up in the 70's and 80's. I have seen hundreds(at a minimum) in my lifetime and continue to get sucked in any time I'm flipping channels and see awesome fight scenes coupled with poor acting and even worse dubbing. I also liked that show on Much Music(or whatever it's called now...Fuse, that's it!) called Kung Faux. That was pretty cool, especially when it was dubbed over a movie I'd seen before. BTW, the moral of Master of Flying Guillotine is: Don't **** with the One-Armed Boxer! Just so you have an idea of what to expect.

I guess what really impresses me about the genre is the fact that these films still get cranked out like mad. One of the coolest I ever saw was from the early 90's. I was stationed in Germany at the time so all the subtitles were in German and it was hard as hell to keep up with the dialogue(which was probably in Chinese). Dudes were uprooting trees and throwing them at each other--it was crazy! Can't remember much more of it, but it had 'Sword' in the title(the German title anyway).

I'm hoping this thread can be a support and reference system for people who want their Kung Fu movie fix. Help a junkie out, people....;)

Crippled Masters (http://www.badmovies.org/movies/cripmasters/) , one of the most effed-up movies of all time. I actually came across it late at night in a profound state of substance impairment ;) , so it's kind of etched in my memory for good. It's pretty offensive if you're PC, though.

I watched "Hero" the other night and found it VERY impressive. It was like "Crouching Tiger..." without the loooong, slow bits. (Sorry, I know that's sacrilege, it was a really good movie, just not the best EVER, like a lot of non-fans of the genre think.)It was engrossing and just breathtakingly beautiful.
Another completely supernal Kung Fu (and Jet Li) movie is "The Tai Chi Master". I would describe it as "The Godfather" of Kung Fu flicks. Just rent it.

I like the Martial arts flicks after spending several years getting kicked in the head. Has anyone seen the promos for Ong Bak. That dude has some pure moves.

Do yo remember how they prefaced EVERY statement / sentence with a looong drawn out "aaahhhhhhhhhh...." sound ?

"AaaAAAAAAaHHHHhhHHHhhh.......You have insulted my mastah...NOW YOU MUST DIE !!!!" < now insert crazy sound Effex>

And, the women talked in a real high, squeeky voice and did sort of a femalian Beavis and Butthead
noise the whole way through thier dialogs.........?
"he hehehehee he .. may.. I .. get... heehhehehe .. you .. some .. he heheeh .. wine, he he Mastuh?"

Foreign filmaking at its best ! :D :D :p

Steven Segal is amazing, both as a martial artist and actor.

I'd recommend a movie, but just rent them all.

Wow...Saturday mornings in the 70's !!!
I LOVE this stuff !!! I grew up on it !!
Ive watched so much of it and practiced some of it (Drunken style :p ) I
think I should have attained a belt of some color, pink maybe :roflmao:

Do a search on 'SHAW BROTHERS'. You will get some good stuff !! :D

As far as the flying guillotine....That movie rocks, y0 !!

Look for Steel Skin too....
The part where they are boilng the guy in wine to make his skin 'steel'
and he explains that every style has a weak point and he wants to
know what Steel Skins is, the Mom flips out and yells "ITS THE AS$H0LE !!!!!
THE AS$H0LE IS THE VULNIBULL POINT" will have you curled up on the floor in tears !!!
Sooooo funny !!!
