Foo - I met the strangest rider tonight...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I sold my replaced Kryptonite lock to this guy tonight and he was a strange character. He had a nice bike - a 2003 Pista - but he had some wacky things to say about it. He kept thinking of ways to destroy his bike so he could replace parts on it! If you're reading this (guy to whom I sold the lock), take no offense. He had a cyclocross rear tire and intentionally skids and skips just so he can replace it sooner. He also had duct tape on his cranks to keep the bolts in. He really wants a sturdier frame to support his weight (250lbs) and knows a steamroller would be good, but instead keeps replacing parts on his pista instead of saving up for a new frame. He also mentioned that he likes to use his current kryptonite lock to hammer his crank onto his bottom bracket and kinda complained that it has been failing on him recently. Man! This guy was a trip. Anyone else know people like this? It sounds like most people on this forum love their bikes and do everything they can to preserve it. Or if they hate it, they save up and replace it with something better. But this guy seems to love to throw his money away on a bike he knows isn't what he wants.
thanks for the lock --i really needed one just to use as a lock. and the duct tape thing works. really!
i'm trying dental floss as cables on my road bike. dental floss is lighter and it'll wear out more quickly. then i can replace it!

My best friend sounds like this fella. He just likes everything to look 'fugly'. He won't spend money on $h!t, though.

Am I wierd for using photoshop to fantasize about upgrading the parts on my bike? (still need to virtually swap out the stem, seatpost, saddle, cranks and put a pair of eggbeaters in)

Did you use a wheelchair hub to get the rear wheel cantilevered off to the left side like that?

I don't think so. I made these for a friend: http://www.christopherlahey.com/bikes.aspx?id=2
(ignore the jaggies; he's a programmer who used html to shrink the images.)

Not my choice of colours either, but 'viva la difference'.
I tend toward conservative colours for fun machines like ferarri red, signal yellow or orange, and dark colours like forest green metalic for the sedan.

Sounds like he was seeking an excuse to buy a new ride but couldn't bring himself to think it through very clearly. You should have sat him him down and given him a good talk to. Sounds like the lad needs a little mental enema. Booze? A biff to the head? Something!

no, you're weird for not putting rubber on them rims...
Am I wierd for using photoshop to fantasize about upgrading the parts on my bike?
Hell, no. I just "put" some Deep V's on my bike to get a good idea for what it'd look like. Count me up there as one of the aesthetically inclined (aren't we all?).

i've never photoshopped a bike together, but i play "dress up" with my bikes before they are complete. my trials frame is sitting in my living room with cranks, wheels and tires, and the fork is only held to the frame by the stem. it's waiting for a headset, brakes, handlebar... but i like imagining it's running.
What exactley is photoshop?
IS it freee, i probably think its expensivve, is there a trial? and why does everyone have it?

its basically the most powerful home photo editing software available.
lots of people buy it, and some people just download it and crack it.
<edit>its $649 from adobe for the new edition. theres a 30 day trial version available on the adobe website</edit>

And for the type of things that most people use it for, the GIMP is free and works just as well. www.gimp.org

The GIMP runs pretty nicely in Windows too.
