HI it's Revrend Steve
I was just trying to find out if there were any bike friendly cafes and resturants in Portland, Oregon and I stumbled in hear! You see I got a new custom rode bike and I'm not about to lock it up out side,so for food on a ride I need to find places where I can bring the bike inside.
I'v been riding seriously since I was a teenager, lots of outragously insane adventures as a late '70s bike punk-riding a century up the Columbia River Gorge on my old Schwin World Sport or Varcity, when there was barly a white line on state route 14 on the Washington side, pulling a chain link and bending the crank arm by riding too hard and finishing the last thirty miles of the ride with the chain wired together with brake cable and a wonky bent crank arm(that sucked).
I'v got four bikes, three that I ride. My old college comuter's been mostly retired. He's (yes all my bikes are boys and they have names) an '87 Novara Aspen, cromolly framed, 26" wheeled fat tired rough rider. We'v loged over 22,000 miles together.
I bought a Klein Palamino Race in July of 03 and haven't made enough time to ride him this last year, my tecknical riding skills are intermediate as is my aerobic capacity. I really enjoy epic offroading, twenty to thirty some mile rides. I intend to get a BOB Ibex trailer and do some mountian bike camping in the desert this year.
Also in 03 I had the oportunity to take a bicycle frame building corce and built a luged cromolly turing frame. Finly got him built up to ride this last July and what a sweet ride he is-a bike of wonderlust built for days and days or weeks on end of loaded touring. I plan to build custom frames, on a limited basis, for thows who know bikes can have souls (I'm a shaman and an animist, my formative experiences include some with antque airplains, very similar to that described in the book 'A Gift of Wings' by the author of 'Jonathan Livingstson Seagull'. A presence of being instilled by love is how I generally see it.)
Last week I got my new custom road bike, an 05 Serotta Ottrott ST, specifically designed for centuarys and epic rides. I'm in love-every ride, 116.3 miles so far, is a revelation (I road today!). I fear I may neglect my other bikes to preferentially ride my Serotta.
So regarding bikes and riding that's me, a freek who can't spell (the last two attempts to post an introduction were lost in an attempt to spell check and view the posting befor posting. So I'm posting this one as is.) with a deep abiding passion for bikes and riding. If you love your bike(s) and call them by name. Kiss them after a ride or sing to them on a ride you'r not the only one!
Spin the wheels, lets see where this road or trail leads. Later, I'm goin' for a ride (writing about it has brought the water to my eyes).
