they are handmade by some guy here in philadelphia. i think they are worth the money, considering they're handmade. i dont have one though...

is this the guy that has the site who never responds to emails?

i would definetly buy from the guy if he would just make it possible to do it online...otherwise, i'm thinking of getting a cheapo cap off ebay, undoing the stitching, and making a pattern so that i can do my own....but i'd gladly support a little-guy business instead.

not offhand, but it's just a splash page and a defunct email address...you can probably find it by searching for custom caps

well when i talked to him yesterday he gave the impression that he was hesitant about making any more, tired of sewing apparently... (i had asked if he could make me a small cap w/ earflaps in some other colors than the ones he had left) so i think whatever stock he had brought with him is all there is for awhile and he was trying to unload them to a shop here.

trying to remember his email..

i just reread my post. i did not mean to imply that the hats were of poor quality. they were beautiful. i just thought they were too expensive. of course, that's cuz they are handmade.

i spent a while doing some digging and came up with the name
"bob k." who is out of phili. nothing more though. any website or
email is still necessary.

Hi all. I actually posted a similar query on Craigslist, Philadelphia, and got two responses. Here are the links that I got:

http://www.neighborhoodbikeworks.org/info.html (a non-profit). The emailer told me to get in touch with Bob, which someone else on this thread posted. Good sign, I'm thinking.

Also, another poster told me that R.E.Load bags sold them, don't know if they have them because they're not listed on their website: http://www.reloadbags.com/

Probably will have to send them an actual e-mail.

I'm kicking myself for not buying one--my girlfriend talked me out of it, curse her! But they WERE really nice hats, and I'm going to get me one!

try www.acmebicycle.com or do a search for handmade wool cycling caps. They have them. No price. try to email them. Looks like a cool shop. Makes me want to go back to KCMO . Great city. Lived there for a while.

I went to the swap meet early in the day and was thinking of getting one. I saw the price and didn't want to spend 30 bucks on a hat. After thinking about it I should have picked one up. I tried to go back since I wanted to check the start of the race but I was to late.

Funny brooklyn

I got there as the swap meet was winding down around three. I tried on some of the hats, liked 'em, but was sweating the price (I really dug the earflaps.) Said I'd be back. I didn't go back, but the lady at the table gave me a last chance as she and the others were leaving with the box. Funny, seems like several people were just roaming about, not quite able to bring themselves to part with the cash--

all sides missed out!

Off-topic, but perhaps relevant, can anyone recommend a wool balaclava or equivalent, or if not, a decent synthetic/cotton one that's not too costly?
