We live in God's little weather experiment. I think He's perpetually testing us NY'ers to see how we respond to changes in weather by throwing everything all of a sudden.

Sick sense of humor he's got there...

tell me about it... i just got my new bike today and spent all day indoors doing work, now it's gonna start snowing so i have to get it back home before all the freaking salting. this teasing with warm weather for a few days then snow is really driving me nuts... should've stayed in southern cali where everyday is a beach day. but then i won't have the fun nyc traffic to navigate, dodging buses and avoiding pedestrians.

That sucks. What kind of bike did you get?

Yeah, so much for taking my monday off to cruise out to jersey. I've spent the weekend putting in my time playing sherpa to the woman and her cousin while they were shopping, now the cousin is gone and it freakin' snows!
Ugh, the means she's gonna want me to help to laundry tomorrow, and probably grocery shopping. You know, until i started biking i loved the snow. Now i curse it because i can't take out my pretty road bike. I bet i'm even gonna have to go see those damn gates in the snow. i'm can't believe i'm actually impatient for spring to take hold.

i just had a bike put together on a 2002 s-works E5 frame, rode back to brooklyn from the city and now i guess it'll stay indoor for few more days...this weather is NOT inducive towards my desire to get off my lazy behind and go ride...

Man, if only I didn't have this nagging cough. We're looking at 4 to 7 and I'd love one last chance to get the fixed gear mtb out and about this year. Hell, I may just do that, health be damned.

Riding home at 130a the snow was wet and sticking to clothing but slippery as oil, like freezing mashed potato. (with plenty of SALT!) And still the cabs must pass you at 45mph within a few feet.
Ride Safe!

Hey hey hey, I take that back now. I just walked outside. Not too bad, the roads are clear cept real muddy. I think I'll still hold off for 2-3 days, I just cleaned my commuter yesterday. Ugh, why doesn't mother nature just take a big dump on my bike and get it over with.

I knew it wouldn't last.

It's actually really bad by me (the streets are a mess and the sidewalks are worse), and by my office it's like there was a blizzard.

I'm so done with this already.

Where do you live? I live next to a hospital, so we get priority in being plowed and such. But I just went outside and most of the streets around here are clean. The temperature's above freezing and it was raining this morning, everything's just a slush.

I live in the Bronx... Morris Park / Pelham Parkway area. As I was standing on the platform waiting for the 5 train this morning, I was getting snowed on. There are a lot of hospitals near me, but they're all off Pelham Parkway which is pretty well cleaned up. It just doesn't help me much :-) As for the office, I work in Long Island City, and it was bad walking here this morning. Industrial area, so they really don't care...

I prefer stupid.
The snow came down quick! Not bad out there now, no one is downtown though. How bad is this salt anyway?
My problem with getting off the bike and training it, is that I mess up the time it takes, and then have to read the subway maps and pay money etc. Silly but, because I am lazy, I will ride instead of reaquaint with the MTA. good luck underground!

Vince did you make it to that CM meeting?

02-21-05, 12:54 PM
I didn't because I ended up working until 8 that night... Long story short, we've been swapping servers in and out and it's been a disaster. We're finally on a nice calm spot now, so of course nothing will be happening.

Then again, Critical Mass is Friday...

And I will be there with a video camera (no bike, just documenting this time)...

And my wife is in DC, so I won't have her all worried about me...

Life is good :D

I think somehow god knows I don't have knobbies or studs.

If you would just spend $200 on some Nokian studded tires for the MTB, all this weather would be over, and we can all get out our best bikes. The roads will be clean and dry. :) :) It will be tropical weather in New England.

Same sort of cruddy weather here in Ohio too. Got out one day last week for about a half hour before sunset. It was 65 degrees then. The rest of last week was bad and this week is supposed to be crappy too. Yuck!

this weather blows. the only good thing for me is that i got in a nice long 65 mile ride yesterday. so, i'm good and sore and with all the new snow on the ground - it makes for a nice rest day.

suppose to snow a bit on friday. that might mess up cm. I'm getting really antsy and really wanna take the new bike out for a nice long spin but don't wanna get it all wet and salty, new bike...paranoid, gotta baby it for a bit. Can't even commute to work cuz the tires on my commuter are useless with the least bit of moisture on the road, almost got ran over by a bus going through fulton mall the last time i rode on wet road. can't take the new one as commuter cuz my office building won't let me take the bike in and i know better than to lock a E5 outside in brooklyn. grrrr... miss the californian weather...

ehhh...have to in order to get to work... it makes an exciting morning, definately get my blood flowing and adreneline up...good wake up ride. I think the buses are worse, jaywalker are just dumb and usually will get out of your way cuz they think you'll mow them down, and sometimes they aren't wrong to think that. The bus drivers on the other hand are just evil and sometimes seems to be aiming for me, they definately don't slow down when i'm passing a slow one and another is coming towards me. you get used to it... it's like an obstacle course.

Damn my stay-up 'til 530am schedule! Missed riding in today, and man I hope it snows little or not at all tonite.

So, Sunday eve I was over a friend's in the Slope till about 11pm or so, step outside and WTF! SNOW!
I hadda ride thru that sh*t and it wasn't fun, blinding snow in the eyes, riding thru unclean streets, layer of snow on ice...after this weekend, I've officially had it with winter.
But those Bagels from 5th avenue made the trip worth it. :D

Tim where did you ride on your 65 mile ride?

i rode with the new york cycle club (NYCC). we rode out to Pearl River, NY. over the GB bridge and north though New Jersey. the club ride was actually 55 miles, but i count the 5 miles each way from my house to the park as well.

I'm tempted to ride into work tomorrow anyway. if the snow slows before midnight i should be able to make it in without too much of a problem. see just how 'water resistant' my timbuk2 really is. as long as it keeps my pants and shirt dry, i think i can make this work.

i can't ride on saturday no matter (apt. hunting), so i've gotta make up that time somehow...

I think it's all a conspiracy to keep us FAT! I can already feel myself chubbing up.
At least I got to commute 2 days this week, there's already 1/2" on the ground and it's only been snowing for an hour.
I'm definitely not commuting till at least early next week, my slicks make me fear for my life.

i don't think the snow's gonna be gone tomorrow, suppose to have showers tomorrow and saturday. my slicks on my nice bike probably have better traction than my commuter, than thing is a deathtrap with the tiniest trace of moisture on the gound. I HATE BUSES!!!
