Foo - first time snowboarding

Yesterday I went to Sierra at Tahoe and snowboarded for my first time. I loved every minute of it. I took the class and I felt pretty comfortable maneuvering the board. I did spent quite a bit of time doing some face plants and ass lands but, hey it was my first time. After going down the beginner slope by my third time I was already getting all the way down without falling. I think I've found another hobby besides cycling. Feeling just a little sore today and I have big bruise on my knee but it was worth it. Just wanted to share...laterz

I tried it last year. I sucked. Congrats on finding a new hobby but I am going to try skiing this year. When I boarded I kept wanting to turn my shoulder down the mountain which would turn the board and I kept crashing. Definately not a natural feeling sport for me :)

i'm going snowboarding for the 3rd time this thursday. i still have not grasped it. hopefully this thursday i can go down the bunny slopes without falling....LOL

Snowboarding is so cool. When I first started I was over 40 and the oldest guy on a board.

Skiiers my own age would poke me with their poles and tell me to act my age!

"I'll act my age when I'm DEAD!" (I tell my mother this, too.)

Now those old guys and gals are on boards too.

actually the first time I tried skiing (over 7 years ago) i hated it. I kept crossing the skis together then falling. my wife prefers skiing though over snowboarding. I can't wait to go boarding again. I think we'll try to hit it one more time this year.

My trails are open and they are calling for no more snow (bad year for a winter resort) so I likely won't bother. Going for a trail ride tommorow, time to retire my ski boots which have never been used haha

Glad you had fun, I got in ~15 hours of snowboarding in this weekend. Plan on hitting the slopes just about every day this wee. Utah resorts have had an awesome snow year, well over 400" so far, and more on the way! :D

Joe, I am jealous. I get to go snowbarding like once a year :P I would never get anything done if I could go every day.

The first time I went snowboarding I got a minor concussion.
The second time I went snowboarding I dislocated my ankle.
The thrid time I went snowboarding I fractured my wrist.
There were no more times after that.

I teach skiing, and have tried snowboarding. It sure is a reminder of how hard it was to learn when I get on a board. My outlook is this, as long as they pay for lift tickets and don't hit me on the slopes, I am all in favor of snowboarders, and I am not even an orthopedist.

I'm struggling to get my season's pass worth of riding in this year... It's been the worst year in memory here in Oregon for snow. But I still have made it up for 6-7 good powder days this year, and am heading down to Tahoe tomorrow morning for 4 straight days of boarding. I'm looking forward to the Spring for more good cycling weather, but sure will miss the snow.

That is a great idea. I like to see a good boarder but that is a rare breed breed. These guys are usually all over the place on their knees or cutting skiers off!

Mad River Glen doesn't groom their slopes, and snowboarders who don't know what they are doing can really ruin a slope by slipping it, exposing the ice underneath. I actually have less problem with out of control boarders, in general, than boarders who are in control, but who are oblivious to what they are doing to the slope. If there were no boarding, then the out of control boarders would be among the out of control skiers. I have been hit many times by both.

My weirdest time involved in a collision was when I was teaching a beginner lesson and some idiot slid about 85 yards into my group, knocking down two students, on a very crowded day. The hill in question is very tame, so the only way to get that kind of momentum was to straight run the entire hill. I asked him to be more careful, and to ski in control. He looked up and me and said "hey as*hole, I was sliding long before I got to your group. Besides, I am trying to teeach my kid how to ski." I was speechless (a very rare occurrence), but the young snowboard instructor about ten feet away was a little more eloquent.
