Just wondering if that bike has a brake or is just a fixed gear?

are the rims wood? or painted metal? what a weird bike!!! looks newer than 1898. and looks fun to ride, does it get lots of looks?

I see that unlike modern tandems it's designed for the woman to ride up front, but with a tie rod to the rear bars so you don't have to trust her to steer. And if you run into anything, she'll act as an airbag. :D

I think you ought to weld a few more tubes up front. Doesn't look like there are near enough joints up there. :p

Thanks for the replys, the rims are wood. We just finished it about two weeks ago, since the rubber tires are white, we didn't want them to get dirty.... We purchased the bike about 20 years ago at a garage sale, it was painted black.....

spoon brake on the front wheel and a coaster brake in the rear hub

that sure is a good looking tandem...the frame is cool...are you going to re-decal her?
how bad of condition was it before the resto?
where did you find the tires?
I've got a ladies single of the same era and i have considered a resto...I am kinda partial to the petina however.
