Mountain Biking - Component Compatability

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I have a bike with mainly entry level components, deore and alivio, I don't care about weight but the shifting of the front deraileur, alivio, is terrible. If I buy an LX or XT deraileur will I see any improvement? Or would I need to upgrade more than just this part, ie, shifters, chain, crank? I know that the XTR is supposed to work best as a group but is it the same for the XT and LX?
Thanks for the help

from what *I* understand the LX, XT, and XTR are all the same design...just use different material to change the weight of the components.

Thanks for the helpLX and XT are smoother than Alivio, but as it's a front derailiuer it may just be a tuning issue, or something as simple as replacing the cables and housing
