Foo - Hug your love ones..... Freaky Story

My Husband plays on a basketball league on Mondays and Tuesday nights. Lastnight at his game one of the other players for the other team was on the sideline on the bench and one of his teammates high-fived him. The guy that was high-fived fell over and DIED of a heart attack. He was only 37 years old.
I guess the paramedics were there in 4 minutes but the guy had already passed.
This is just totally sad!!! I feel for his family and friends.

Just remember everyday you have with someone be a friend, family member or anyone you care about could be their last or yours!!!!

Now carry on and go ride!

it's sad, but people die. we all know that. my strategy is to live each day in such a way that it is not my last.

It's too bad no one on the team or present in the gym had CPR training. It may have made a difference.

Then check out when their next blood drive is. Think how much lighter you will be on your bike when you're a pint low!

Automatic Electronic Defibrulators (AED's) have really come down in price. I've seen them in malls. Gyms surely should have them. My company bought two.

Actually CPR was provided it didn't help. There was someone trained there at the time. They play at rec. center where one of the lifeguards tried CPR.

Tim McGraw sings a good song about living like you were dying. I try to take in the best each day because you never know when your time is up. Too many people work too hard and miss out on the pleasures of life. That's a tragic situation snowy, especially someone as young as 37.

As for the CPR. My mother has CPR training and when she was in graduate school one of her classmates had a heart attack and she and a friend provided CPR and saved his life. It is definately a thing to know and be handy on. I have been trained, but it was years ago. I think I might look into updating myself. This story is a good reminder to do that.

I had a feeling you were gonna say CPR was done. I got a feeling from your first post that the guy died immediately. Don't people who have heart attacks usually feel pain and are conscious thru the first part? Sounds like that guy went quick.

LO, just a fellow player. Yeah, its crazy how quick he went. One moment he is playing and the next gone!!!

He probably had one of those heart conditions. I remember a few months ago this actor (Stephen biggs I think- he was on Babylon 5) dropped dead on his front walk.He was 44, in great shape, never sick. But it turned out he had a tear in his aorta. No one knew. There was nothing anyone could do- he was dead when he hit the ground.

Isnt there something where: When your heart beats it occasionally skips a beat and when you are hit at that time you eithor die instantly or your in really bas condition?

Sounds just like what happened to a friend of ours two years ago. He and my husband and some other guys were helping a family move into our neighborhood. One minute he was stacking boxes on a pick up truck and the next he was on the ground. He had no medical problems at all. Sadly he left a wife and four young children. He was only 34. Strangely enough I have been close to two people who have died this way, instant heart attack...both healthy.

Similar story: at our Tuesday closed-course training sessions.
A guy was just riding along when The Big Guy called him home.
EMT personnel said he was dead before he hit the ground.

A pity, and scary as well. But a lesson there for those left behind.

Im not sure, A friend's dad was hit in that and was hospitalized, it probably is but hey whatever.

A good song and a good sentiment. I'm sure he was referring to his father, Tug McGraw, who died of brain cancer.

Tug was a Major League pitcher, co authored the cartoon strip "Scroogie" and invented "Big League Chew" bubble gum. Not a bad way to live your life.

Back to your friend, at least someone tried CPR. Good. You've got nothing to lose by trying.
