I have a raleigh m-60 and i was wondering what would be the best set up for disc brakes? The bike is set up for disc brakes if i wanted to add them.

I've always thought Avid mechanicals would be nice. They don't work quite as well as hydraulic brakes but you don't have the relatively complicated maintenance involved. I know some would argue that the maintenance isn't complicated, for me - however - any maintenance is a drag. No pun intended! :rolleyes:

get hydrolics if you can, less maintenance, and hope is probably the best, and quite good value for money

Have you ever used Avid mechaincals? They work just as good as hydraulic.

I've only used disc brakes on test bikes ... I thought they both worked very well. Considering my lack of experience, however, I was going on what my friends who ride disc brakes exclusively tell me. I think bleeding lines and such is a pain in the butt, so the Avids would be a top choice were I to switch.

I have Hayes hydraulics and I love them. I have had them for two years and have yet to need to bleed them. The rotors are still in good shape as are the front pads. I replaced the rear pads a few months ago, although I could have gotten more use from them. Replacing the pads on a disc is as easy as a v brake. Adjustment is simple on a disc brake as well.

Once you have disc brakes you won't go back.
