Is it bad to put Slime in your Road tires?
I bought three tubes with it in them by Slime and I have been very Happy with them and I went to my local bike shop and I asked for them and they said that It's eats away at the tires and messes it up alot.
Is it true?
And If so what is my best bet on tubes?
What Brand?
I do, hate flats and they seem to help. You'll have to watch the valves, if the slime gets in the threads and is not cleaned the valve will be glued in place. Many punctures I've had go flat in the garage overnight, just the way I like it!
They are messy, be warned and keep a rag handy when dealing with them.

Sorry, the rest of your question. The tires I use are Armadillos, and I wore out 2 rear and 1 from last season from riding. When I took them off the belts were showing on outside, no problem on inside from slime. Your LBS may know more than I, they might also be full of chit, you can decide that one. I've used Slime brand for 4 years now, get them at REI, I'm sticking with them for now.

- - If you check "Search The Forums" you will find a LOT more discussion about Slime.
I used slime when riding bigger tires (1.95"), but found when I tried it in road tires, the higher pressure (120 lbs) would blow out the seal - if it sealed at all.

It's weird, shifty, cuz Schraeder valves are the easiest to put Slime IN, but the worst about clogging up with the stuff! I've never had a presta valve gunk up on me. As far as "eating away" at your inner tubes, that's some deep doo-doo. I'm sure there's a lawyer somewhere that would LOVE proof that Slime makes a product that messes up what it's supposed to fix, meanwhile putting the user's safety at risk! Urban legend, imho.

Yeah Kris, The presta is all I use and I've had them gunk up only a few times. The first time it happened I twisted out the whole valve, yuck, learned a lesson that day that I've not repeated. Other that that I'm just real careful to make sure I clean up well whenever air come out through the valve. I kind of thought doo doo too.

Slime doesn't work for me at 120 psi, just won't hold. It also meses up my presta's terribly.
I use Spec Armadillos and regular tubes.
Our major problem around here is goatheads.

I haven't tried Tru-Goo yet but I have heard that it doesn't clog the stems the way Slime does.

Yeah, I forgot to add that. It really doesn't work very well for high pressure tires.

I have had nothing but heartache with pre-slimed tubes.
Presta valve gets clogged up causing constant valve leak.
I had 3-strikes before I decided to never use them again.
Enjoy

I use slime in my low-pressure mountain bike tires.. the heavy tube, liner, and slime probably add at least a pound per wheel over a standard tube setup, but it very rarely goes flat.

Man, I really hate goatheads.
