I bought a 512mb MP3 player of ebay for $99 deliverd, very good price.....but now i believe those people who say dont trust those singapore manufactures. I sent it back the next week beacuse it was not 'shock proof' as it claimed to be. I had also looked at the shuffle, but not enough space. Seemed like a cheaper alternative to the mini.
yeah, im poor and am looking for something i might take on a ride

Yup! been looking for a cheap, shockproof mp3 player that i can take on rides. This might be a good choice.
My friend has an Ipod Mini, they are ok.

The Shuffle Rocks. I use it every day at the gym at work every where I go , just ditch the crappy earphones and get some shure e3c’s and you can’t go wrong . I very rarely use my 15gig 3g ipod anymore it is sitting on my desk collecting dust. Then again I love Mac’s so my opinion might be a little biased

How much space is in the shuffle?

I have the 512 meg one and and right now I have 90 songs on there and I am using another 50 megs as a flash drive to take files back and forth to work double that for the 1 gig one

I love my Shuffle, easy to use, sounds great and small. I hook it up to the car and home systems at parties. But I got into audio books and downloads so I am going to upgrade to a 20G IPod. If you only need music, it is well worth the money.
I'm thinking of getting some kind of Ipod. At the moment i have a really good discman that i don't want to give away.
i just got my shuffle, and it rocks... expecially for riding! so light and yet so big

LOL. Mp3 player are solid state devices. They don't suffer from "shock". The problem you are more likely referring to is player crashing. This is usually caused by crappy batterieis. I run AAA nimh's on mine and it is perfectly fine.

Mine was doing that, restarting itself and I sent it back to Sinapore and they replaced it. Apparently a faulty connection...

I would get at least an iPod Mini, as otherwise youi will be swapping out music all the time.
I picked up an Shuffle thru Amazon. $30 off for signing up and using thier Amazon branded Visa with 0% interest for 6 months. I'll never use the card again, I'll just cancel it after I make my 6 payments of, what, $11.67?
I really enjoy the commute while listening to The Bob & Tom Show (which I download daily) but the old Rio 300 was getting a little long in the tooth.

Nice try Sherlock..............
There are dozens of hard drive based MP3 player on the market, most notably the infamous IPOD. While most spin the drives up periodically, read data into memory and then spin down, it is possible to damage the drive.

So what? I reload and recharge my shuffle every night. It's simple to autofill from itunes library or any playlist you create in itunes. OK I had a mac and all my music in itunes already, so for me it was a no brainer. I got the 1gig but the 512mb will play all day if you let the shuffle compress MP3s to AAC as it loads. I don't have a need for 1000 hours of music on a player that needs to be recharged after 18 hours. Real ipod with a charger would be great for traveling but for day to day use, if you are going home every night, it's easy to change the program while you recharge the battery.
