Well I tried to commute in this morning. I should have just drove in the first place but the weather was going to be in the High 30’s and sunny :-) I started out and noticed a little black ice nothing to worry about I thought. Well I turn down this small side street and next thing I know this little tiny rat dog is at my wheel yapping up a storm so I start pedaling harder to lose him and realize I am on a pretty big patch of ice so my back wheel is all over the place and I am yelling at the dog trying to get it away from me (I was more worried about falling and crushing him then being bitten) I finally make it away from the dog now on to the hill’s. I start going real hard because this part of my commute is pretty steep and it wakes me up in the morning if I am a little tired. Well a quarter of the way up the first hill I feel my wheel slipping so I try to stay up , this is the point that I start seeing cars spinning out going up this hill ( I wish I saw the cars before I attempted to go up the hill ) I go down of course and slide right into the middle of the street where the cars are spinning out . I try to get up and fall again this happened a few more times before I just gave up and scooted down the hill on my butt looking like a fool. I decided not to try my luck anymore today and rode the 1.5 miles back to the house and took the car in cursing the whole time because the sun was out and it looked like it would have been a great ride in if not for the black ice. Oh well you win some and you lose some. I think I am going to get some studded tires now .

i had the same experience this morning, almost went down twice on just some evil black ice all over the place....

i bet out in the burbs it was even messier! i probably should have turned back, but i ride a long flat road for a while and i could see the sun coming and i knew once it hit the pavememnt i'd be safe, and i made it. i was right in the car tire path most of the time, just looking for the dry spots; all tense and white knuckled not too much fun.

for consolation that realy dosen't happen around here much usually if it is below freezing it is pretty dry.... USUALLY anyway.

studded tires woulda rocked today but who knew????

Black Ice is evil !!!!!! It sucks. We very rarely get black ice around here so I figured it would have been a good ride plus it is supposed to snow again tomorrow which bites. I wish my ride was all flat but the burbs suck the first half is a climb and it is a 12 mile ride in. I was going to push on but I was a little frazzled after sliding down the hill in traffic.

I was slippin and sliden in on Wednesday morning too. Once I got into Philadelphia it was just wet. I was lucky not to go down. Saw some rodies headed out of the city and told them to watch out. I’m going to pick up a set of studded tires next winter for sure. That way it won’t snow. Didn’t ride in yesterday or today. Monday looks iffy. Where do you ride in from?

I know it isn't funny, but I pictured Mr. Bean in this scenario.

:D

Too funny - you can just see him on a rickety old single gear, with a little horn on the bars, making his characteristic noises as he starts to go down.......
