Commuting - CygoLite switch finally gives out . . .

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I bought a CygoLite 6W dual beam last Nov for my winter commute. I noticed the switch was a little flaky. Well, late Feb and it finally gave out, this after about 5 days per week of use. At least I have the other beam. I bought it off an online catalogue. Wonder if I can still return it. Can't remember which one though.

they have excellent customer service. they will almost certainly repair / replace it for you. they replaced my light recently easily. I had my LBS give it to the cygolyte rep.

I agree about the service. I had mine for several months, a light blew, called to order a new one and the cygolite guy asked me how old it was (I said a few months) and then said they'd send me a replacement under warrantee. They also earlier sent me a grommet that was defective.
But what breaks about the switch? I've looked at the switches and they seem fairly simple - is it not home repairable (which can be better than warantee as you could fix it stronger than original design)

The switches for dual beam seem suspect given the complaints I've seen here and my own experience. I took mine apart and was able to rearrange the orientation of some wires to get mine to work (maybe a poor connection inside the switch housing, which I'm unable to open without destroying). However, after switching, I still occasionally have to tap the switch cover lightly to get the lights to illuminate. When the switch finally fails, I'll just try to find a similar, but more durable replacement.
Heck, maybe I'll just start looking now so I'm prepared.

On the dual beam, there are two rectangular plastic thingies on the back of the light that slide left and right, toward center to turn on. When I slide the right beam switch to the center, the light does not turn on. The rectangular piece of plastic (ie, what I am calling "the switch") is itself loose, ie. it rotates slightly up and down as well as sideways. Not sure if I can describe it any better in words.
Do you think if I call Cygolite directly, they would help me out, even if I forgot where I bought the thing?

Yes, contact them directly - contact info is on their web page, I'd suggest a phone call vs. email.
As to the switches - I meant what is broken from the view inside (after you take cover off) I assume taking cover off doesn't violate warantee as you need to take the cover off to replace bulbs. But if you are unsure of taking things apart, call Cygolite first - there is nothing tricky inside, just that if you remove some of the little parts, you could have trouble putting them back correctly.

Hmm, my switch is different -- a push button, 3-way toggle with a rubber cover to keep it clean and dry. But, it still sucks!
