I've just acquired a Russ Tandem and can find out almost nothing about them. Anyone fancy comparing notes?

The Wells brothers of Catford CC at the end of a time trial. John (the steersman) has streaks of ice on his jacket and in his hair, while Len only has ice in his hair. Definitely some advantages being a sheltered stoker! The tandem is a Russ Rigide.

This was obviously taken at the end of a tandem time trial, as Len gives his brother John a cup of something hot - tea, no doubt! See the photo I uploaded a couple of weks ago, which was obviously taken at the same event. It must have been a cold day: the white streaks on the steersman's alpaca jacket, and in his hair and that of his brother, are ice! The tandem is a Russ Rigide.

So, apparently there was a British framemaker, ER Russ, that made bikes pre- and post-WWII, and at least in the 1930's made tandems.
