... why? Gearing? Lighter? More comfortable?
I'd say that Iban was getting nervous...

OK, I'll bite. Nervous about what?
i wondered that myself... why was he not riding the orca to begin with...?

About not being able to pedal efficiently, forcefully and carelessly. Don't know what exactly was going on with him in that particular stage, but Iban clearly was having a terrible off-day and suffered mentally as well. Maybe getting on a different bike was a desperate last attempt at reversing things...

Because he prefers the Starship frame to the Orca. Having owned both I can't blame him.

Wouldn’t the change of bikes actually imply the opposite?

No. He's ridden a Starship in every mountain stage in the last two seasons. He rode one to victory on Mt Ventoux in the Dalphine (sp) last year. There could have been other reasons for the switch such as something on his Starship was amiss and the only other bike they had available was the Orca. Besides my answer was to KoNG who was asking why he didn't ride the Orca to begin with and that is because he preffers the Starship over the Orca.

Fair enough. :)
Yeah....he would have been feeling a bit "off" that day. First thing pros do is request a bike change.
