So, um, what do they do with all the pulp from the pulp-free orange juice?

Dump it in the "extra pulp" variety.

I dunno. Have you ever had fresh squeezed Oj? There is more pulp in the fresh stuff than the "Lots of Pulp". I like my Oj to drink like a meal.

My uneducated guess is that they probably sell it, and the peels, to some company who can use it, like someone who makes fertilizer or livestock feed. I doubt it's thrown away.

Funny, they always talk about how the Indians used every part of the animal, as if it's some moral virtue, when it's only good economics. Did you know that the pet food industry only started as a way for breakfast cereal companies and slaughterhouses to sell their leftover byproducts which were judged unfit for human consumption?

Yea, its all about economics and not moral virtue these days.

Recycle.

It always was about economics. "Moral virtue" is an anachronistic interpolation.

Tangent: I like OJ instead of other energy drinks. Vitamin C helps rebuild tissue, the natural fructose is better for you than high-fructose corn syrup or plain sugar, and the potassium levels are over 10 times higher than Powerade.

Coca-Cola owns both Powerade and Minute Maid OJ. Go figure.

Anyway, I can make a 20 oz bottle of OJ for about 23 to 33 cents, while "POWERade" costs me over a dollar.

Do this: buy OJ as usual, in a cost-effective frozen form. Using an old Powerade bottle, scoop that frozen OJ into it up to 1/2 inch deep in the bottle (it's pretty soft and melts really fast.) Add cold water until there is about 2 oz. of space left for shaking.

Keep packed away in an insulated area until ready to drink. Whip it out at a red light, shake, chug.

The official word is in! I asked your question of the Minute Maid company, and here is their reply:

"What a stupid question! Bugger off, you. And drink more orange juice."

Er, sorry, wrong answer--they said, "Culls and peels go to feed mill to be used as cattle feed."

Now you know...the rest of the story!
