Commuting - I-5 Over the Columbia

It has a bike/ped lane on each side (one north one south) that is about 4 feet wide. The enterances/exits to these lanes are at the bridge ends for the most part. I'm having difficulty riding south bound in the early afternoon (about 3:30) and other riders coming north bound on the southbound side. Now I realize there is now law about it since it's a path, but wouldn't ettiquete dictate that you ride on the appropriate side. Most of the poeple that ride here are not what I would call cyclists so I don't try educating them on the proper thing to do, but I've had a run in with 1 particular fellow that seems a cyclist and refuses to ride appropriately.
I'm at the point where I've told him that I will block his path evertime I see him, and maybe he will tire of it and start using the other side. i'm I the a-hole or should I continue my course of action.

I ride up there sometimes. Generally I agree that it's best if riders ride on the side of the bridge for the direction they're going. On that bridge, though, I haven't been able to find the access for the northbound side, so I just use the southbound side for bothj directions.

It seemed like access to the northbound side got messed up on the Portland end. How do you get there?

But ya, you are being the A-hole. You shouldn't be rude about it. He could be like me and not know where the access point is. He could just be exercising his right to be where he is. Afterall, it's not your bridge.

thnks for the info. The access to the northbound side is just on the other side of the tunnel that goes under I-5. I did ask him about why he rode on that side, and he said just because he likes that side, so apperently he knows where it is. Maybe I'll rethink my position. Thanks

On the Vancouver side you access it from the parking lot of the building at the foot of the bridge. Personally I like the south bound side much better. It is the one that I always use. But I commute late at night when there is no one else out there.
