can anyone tell me if there's any easy way to get a front wheel (quick release wheel) off, getting it past a pair of v brakes? I have to take the front wheel off to transport my MTB in my truck, and i have yet to figure out a way to get the thick tire past the brakes without taking one of the brakes off. this is probably a stupid question, but does someone out there know an easy way to accomplish this? non-suspension fork on a '90's trek 930.

If you have modern linear pull brakes, there should be a quick release on the brake.

See the following pictorial or go to your lbs to and ask them

Pull the tension bars off the anchor, then pull the noodle out from the bridge.
If you don't release the tension bars the noodle won't come free.

<sarcasm>

a) Upgrade to disc brakes.
b) Ride on skinny tires.

BTW, if you do not have quick release on your brakes, you should upgrade them to something that does. And if that requires you to upgrade your fork, you might as well go disc ;-)
