Hey everyone. I just started getting the hang of jumping and am actually beginning to get quite high (sometimes). Thanks to whoever suggested to really think about throwing your arms forward, it helped alot.
So, now I have a concern: Of the times that I get even the smallest amount of lift (6" or so) I notice that my rear derailler comes back and hits the frame (with quite a bit of force) when I land. It makes a considerable "bang" and I was wondering if this is normal. It feels un-normal to have this happen and I suspect that some sort of adjustment should remedy the problem but I don't know what to do. Has anyone experienced this and can help me out.

If i have this right (prob not) then it is really the chain that is making the ping. what you should do is go and get a one of those nice chainstays. Lizard skins are nice. http://www.lizardskins.com/img/prd_l_chain-super-jumbo.jpg
that should fix it (or i have not a clue what you are talking about and in that case i dont really know what to tell you :)

thats normal...just wrap some electrical tape around the part of the frame that the derailer hits.

Thanks for your help, and from Tdot too. Actually what I was going to do was throw some hockey tape on it, cuz it's a little softer. Thanks.

Well I live near Lawrence and Scarlet Road area, and I do most of my riding to work (Exebition Place). I do some light trails here and there (cuz I'm new). Do you have any idea of some good trails in the city? I would like to build on the skills that I have been developing. I have always had a bike (usually just Crappy Tire ones) but I recently bought a real one. I love riding.
I think that the tapes would leave a residue, so what I did was take an old tire tube that had a flat in it, and cut out a section of it long and wide enough to cover the bar (lack of terminology). I then used some zip-ties to secure the rubber in place. Works just as well, if not better, then tape because it is softer, meaning it is more absorbant.

does it happen when your on the bike too? It could be the chain tugging at the cassete due to the downward force, causing the cassete to move a little, to the point where it blocks. at that point it makes a clanking noise, which is amplified by the hollow structure of the frame.....
shouldnt do that if you're riding though..
