Would like to get a new set of flat pedals for my MTB. Do mostly XC riding(do not like clipless) and a little freeride type action. But the set I am using I actually found a couple years ago and they are basically one notch above plastic platforms. I would like something that is a good size, NO spikes, not that BMX stuff, but I don't mind the typical pins. Nothing that weights 10 lbs either. Just something simple and cheap that won't break under normal XC riding. My old Trek 4500 has a simple set of flats on it and they worked great. Nice and big and my feet never slipped off them riding with my usual new balances. Something like that.

I use THAT bmx stuff.
Spikes\cages are mountain\mud, pins are bmx.

I use MOSH halfstep, w\ unsealed bearings so I can maintain them easily.
Cheap, take abuse well.

But you can't...

I seriously need to put this link in my sig or something (but displace my song quotes? waah...)

Get the 9/16 version. Great pedals, not too heavy, nice size, replaceable/removable pins. You can probably do pedal grinds if you're so inclined, take out half the pins so the bottom is more slippery.

Most importantly.. the price.

I use Odyssey Southgates (http://www.speedgoat.com/product.asp?part=42089&cat=240&brand=176) on my trail bike and I've never been happier. No fuss no muss. Pins that grip, bearings that run smooth, it's a good thing.

I also have a pair of DK Iron Crosses laying around those served me well until I went to clipless on that bike. Those were some soild pedals.

Bmx cages are strong - like using pedals for grinding etc, many DH bikers use bmx platforms...they are cheap, pedals DIE.
Only thing worse than a 45$ broken pedal is a 145$ one. I'm on a second set of bearings, 1.5 years use.
I got removable pins, 2 have been punched out, I use a small bolt to replace.

Get some with supa nice sealed bearings for XC. DMR also makes some nice ones.

Pricepoint has a combo deal that has pedals and shoes. The shoes I am using are literally the most trashed pair I have ever owned. Good use out of them though. BUt what do you think of these pedals? They have sealed bearings, at least.

probably will. pedals are a bit lighter than most, they still got 10 pins and all, and they come with shoes. seems good to me. my trek pedals were good and i cant imagine these are any worse.

Some bearings suck, sealed or not. Being a pedal specific company I'm confident they are competent.

I've 'spun' a few types and there is a great difference in the revolution smoothness.

I'm not so hot on sealed bearings because I maintain them, change the balls, ride 'em until the races erode.
