Mountain Biking - Mountain Biking - What's it to you?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

What does everyone think about mountain biking?

Trail riding is relaxing, doing a long climb is a sense of fullfillment, DH racing is a rush like no other.

I love to freeride and dirt jump. I think that is the best part about mountain biking...

I aint a jumper, i love the rush of doing something new, its also relaxing, and the fulfillment of doing something new is great, but spending time with your mates is also fun..
Then again, i sometimes think stuff all of it, and go for an XC run on my own...
I love mountain biking in general, every disipline has some kind of thrill...

I love all the aspects you listed, (especially speed http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/pinit/ffafe68e.gif) but I live for the flow...the total integration of me, the machine, and the terrain.

I think you left out the optopn "All of the above" ...
I love biking for the jumps, and the excersize. I love being in the air and biking keeps me in shape. It also strengthens the relationship between me and my buddies. Im slowly decaying because I havent been able to ride my bike for 3 weeks... My 20mm axle should arrive tomorrow though.

I'd have to say hitting a trail would actually be about having a good time, and not the exercise, if I wanna exercise I'll go hit up a greenway.

It's everything that we don't appreceate enough of: being out doors, doing something worthwhile with our buds, getting in shape, enjoying nature, being adventurous, working on our bike skills, and just getting out there away from all the hustles of life.
It's a Zen thing to me.

Actually, it's my "escape", and has been just that for over 12 yrs. Exercise is a benefit from doing it, as is the adrenaline rush flyin' DH.

It's all about the rush of speed. Wow, I'm getting anxious to ride just thinking about it.
I'm into it for everything. If there's some high-speed downhill that comes my way and I feel the need then I'll take it. If I manage to come across some fast rolling cross-country then I'll take it. If I get that itching for some gnarly slow-speed twisty singletrack then I'll dive into that too. If I get a chance to hit some jumps then I'll try them. I usually take whatever the terrain has to offer. To me, the great thing about MTBing is the way you can experience such variety of terrain and riding all in a single ride. And yes, the most important thing for me is just to have fun.

I'd have to say its all about the being outdoor and going on a long ride. :)
Its all about me. Being alone. Riding hard. Loseing life for a bit.

for me its all about the flow(speed!!!) of the trail, being outside, havin a good time with my friends. and plain and simple getting away from everything
I'm out to have a good time. I'm not going to set any course records so I just go to have fun.

Those 2 are 99% perfect in my eyes only lacking one thing (in regards to me), progression. Can be anything from climbing a trail I had walked to cleaning a dh section to gain a ft on a drop etc...its all about small measurements of progression (even mental blocks)
To me riding is about going out with your mayes, trying things you never thought you could do, stacking and laughing at yourself. Then go home and have a nice refreshing cold beverage *cough* beer *cough*

None of those.
It's getting into the back country, seeing things you don't get to see often.
Finding old ruins, foundations and forgotten roads that haven't seen anyone in decades.
It's quiet time.

The exercise, jumps, and speed are all of the things I ride for.

I love to be in the woods and the mountains and hiking/backpacking is just too slow for me now. Mountain biking is a nice adjunct to road biking and vice versa. It also is a fun way to stay fit and keep ones reflexes from deminishing due to aging. It's a neat way to do some friendly competition with the "kids" who are in their 40's. Then too, the occasional club rides are a blast.
