Whew. I think I made up for not cycling yesterday. I decided to get bold and see how many miles I could conquer by going out west towards the everglades (http://cyclingtheamericas.org/Route/Florida/Florida.html). I made it all the way to Buffalo Tigers airboat ride/gift shop place (at the edge of the Miccosukee Indian Reservation) and ate a small lunch and chatted with Bufallo and his beautiful Columbian assistant before heading back. I think right now, 60 miles is probably my limit unless I were to start earlier in the day and take more breaks. But I was happy with what I did today considering the most I've done since my training hiatus was 30.
I did a lot of thinking during my ride. I was thinking about adding some "bar ends" in unconventional places on my handlebar for a some change in hand position changes. I'll have to draw some things up and post them on BikeForums for some of the experts to check out. :D
I saw a lot of road kill as I was on the long stretch towards the end. I was thinking of taking pictures of interesting road kill on my trip and then making a coffee table book from it. Think it would sell? Maybe I need to bring some music along next time to keep myself from these crazy thoughts. Some of the roadkill I saw was: frogs, giant grasshoppers, snakes, alligators, a bird, a racoon, and I think that was about it.
One really large alligator caught my eye. Its tail was missing and I thought it may have been poached. But Buffalo Tiger told me its not uncommon for people to pull over and cut the heads and tails off of alligator road kill cuz they're worth money.
Although spotting the variety of roadkill was entertaining at times, I didn't really enjoy some of the smells.
In other news, I have some funky tan (er, burn) lines from my shorts and jersey.
Tonight I'm off to Tobacco Road with Mom to listen to some live music and maybe dance a little if the legs allow it.
Thanks for reading,
Ouch! Cramp!
