Did a ride yesturday where I climbed a bunch of hills. One of the hills which wasn't the biggest, but was kinda steep, presented me with an interesting challenge. I really pushed hard going up this hill, and passed everybody else doing so, but I think with a price.

I woke up this morning with a big bloody red spot in my eye. I think I burst a vessel or something. My wife did it once when vomitting too hard when she got the flu. Anyway, I wonder if it happened because of that climb. Has anyone else ever had this happen to them before?

this can be a symptom of high blood pressure. persistently high blood pressure is a concern, high blood pressure during this kind of exertion is also discomforting.

Ditto HPB. Go to a doctor and have it checked out.

Last time they check I was like 120/80, or something like that. That was even after I had two cups of coffee and some chocolate chip cookies, and still weighed 200# (175# now) . Anyway, Doc says I am fit as a fiddle. I actually have fairly low BP when I burn off the caffeine, and get some good sleep.
But, I did ask my doctor, and he said it can happen when really exerting core muscles, etc, because it pushes blood up into the head. It's what fighter pilots do when pulling alot of g's, so they don't blackout.
It went away in a couple days, and I guess it really isn't too much of a concern unless it happens alot.

Invest in a cheap heart rate monitor, keep an eye on things when pushing yourself. You don't give your age, but if you are advancing along like some of us you need to be mindful to listen to your body more. I was out on Sunday on a spin. One of the group pushed too hard, still feeling it today, sometimes not the brightest.
Like to posts said, get yourself checked out and if need be back off the 2/3 mins on a climb. Its about enjoying oneself ......
