Hellol. I have an old mountain bike with some newer parts, that is now getting a couple more new parts since the hub collapsed on me Friday. It's been upgraded to an SUB (sport utility bike) with the help of Xtracycle.com (http://xtracycle.com) , and I totally love it!
I am a 100% bicycle commuter, having ditched cars permanently the last time one gave out on me. Last spring I married a wonderful guy who's never gotten in the habit of driving in the first place - doesn't even own a drivers license! Naturally my SUB is now our family 'stationwagon.'
We've found that on those rare occassions when we need to haul more, or when we want to go out without the bikes, a taxi works fine. The cost is way more than offset by what we're saving by not being addicted to dinosaur fuel. Also, we use the internet to do a lot of things most people drive all around town for - like shopping.

Hi Morgaine, wow going carless in Idaho. I'm impressed. I try to use a bike instead of a car whenever I can but haven't quite worked up to the point of getting rid of my car entirely, and I'm in Northern California, where I have less excuse (at least weather-wise).
Welcome to the forums.

Welcome, Morgaine. I'm glad to know that there are people in Idaho without big trucks. You'll find some crazy commuters on this site, enjoy.
