Hello all. I have been cycling for a little over a year now. I got into it when I challenged myself to get in shape enough to do a triathlon last year... I ended up doing two: a sprint distance and an olympic distance tri.
You see, I am a Computer Application Architect that spends most of his time sitting behind a computer with coffee mug and a pop-tart. After several years of that, I began to notice my girth increasing and my energy level dropping. When I got home from work, I had no energy to play with my two sons (7 & 3.5) and help my wife around the house... something needed to change.
The local YMCA was helping some, but otherwise I was bored with my workouts. Then entered the triathlon challenge. The sprint distance intrigued me, since it seemed very do-able for me. I just needed a bike.
A friend of mine who's web site I do (http://www.geocities.com/decyclesindiana) is a big cyclist and loaned (gave) me and old Peugeot steel framed bike. It was pretty old, but after some new tires and a tune up, it faithfully carried me hundreds of miles and through two races.
I noticed over the past year and a half that cycling seems to be my sport of the three (swim, bike, run) and I can usually average 21mph without much trouble. This year I ran across a deal on a new '01 Giant TCR2 at one of the local bike shops and bought it for a great price. It is a fast bike with an aluminum frame, carbon fork, carbon seat post, Mavic wheels and Shimano 105 components. I am very happy with it and the price was unbeleivable!
So now I'm struggling with what to do with the cycling thing. I'm curious about bike teams and where I can go to perhaps hone in on this sport. Even the whole family is getting into it. We all go for bike rides whenever we can.
Anyhow, it's nice to meet you all, and I hope to have something to add to the forums very soon.
