No Tengo Coche and I have been trading emails/phone tag for probably 3 months, or more.. trying to get together for a fix ride in SD here. San Deigo, the town of plastic culture that is...

Anyway, it's Friday afternoon, I'm off work, and I'm scouting some place cheap to eat, trying to kill time before CM starts. Headed down Broadway near Horton "yuppie town" Plaza, when some girls on the corner yell out his name. Startled, I look around, and there's No Tengo Coche. We exchange a few words...

And he does this magical skip skid left sweep accross four lanes of traffic splitting on comings better than a Campy Shamal cuts the wind.. and dissapears up Fifth.

Yes, Ladies and Gentlemen, he is, the real deal.

To boot, later at CM: he's very non chalant about it.. "oh it wasn't that big a deal, I can only do it once or twice a month.."... He also reveals he was doing it with out clips or straps...

Skills, the man's got skills...

Man that skid you wrote of sounds way cool. I'm sorry I missed it, as I might have learned something.

I really need to work on my skidding. I was relying far too much on my "Heisman Trophy - straight arm" on moving vehicles to slow my row. I don't yet feel comfortable jamming my balls against the Nitto at high speed.

Anyway, when I get off duty (FD-not PD!) tomorrow morning I'll have the next six days off and the weather forecast looks good. Look, I'll pop for the java if you'll share some tips on how to skid at speed.

Zap me a PM-please.

BTW----Franklin dropped by two weeks ago from Kansas and we chased each other around the velodrome. Thorughly bored, we then spent some quality time slapping cabs along Broadway during rush hour. Lucky for us, the cabbies here, in Southern Cal, have yet to recognize fixers as their natural enemy. He liked our 5 mph ride along Mission Beach (boardwalk) dogding hot chicks on blades best.

with a name like "No Tengo Coche" (which, coincidentally means "I ate ten couches"), I would expect skills. Or some food, like a pastry or something.

OHHHHH, that's what it means. I've been telling the neighbors I have a fold out car for the last 39 years!

I'm not sure I'm a good teacher. I can skip better now with the shorter bull horns, but my long skids aren't.. long. Skipping seems to be better at taking off speed down town.

Broadway is a cool street to ride with the exception of the articulated busses. Have not had a positive experience with them yet...

I'll see if I can find No Tengo.. If we could get 3 fix riders in a group, shoot, I'll buy coffee at Bassam. You can play skids near the Hilton ~ there's a fountian off Harbor that you can ride through, get wet tires and try skids on. Better way to start and get a feel for it anyway.

PM your way...

Ya know, you would think, that living in a place like San Diego, with arguably some of the best weather in the world, with an ocean view that our FG population would NOT be represented in single digits. I don't get it.

Man, this is what Big Foot must feel.

See ya on Friday!

I have a good mind to stop eating my holistic tofu and crawl out of my biodegradable hot-tub to challenge your claims. Instead, I'll feed my lama, dust off my new wind chimes, unplug my electric car, and drive over to see my therapist.

I used to live in SD, and have rode down Broadway many times. Brings back fond memories! Do you ever go over to Balboa Park and ride the velodrome?

Nope. I dunno. I'm not the velodrome type?

I just plug away at traffic and the misc hills we have here.

I've got a lot of San Diego riding descriptions in my blog...
