Touring - West bank of the Hudson River?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I'm planning a tour downstate this summer (Buffalo to NYC area), and I have cue sheets all the way to around Poughkeepsie. I'm planning on staying at a friend's house just north of Weehawken, but have no cue sheets for this stretch. Anybody have any advice? 1and 9 seems awfully busy, but I don't want to go through slums, either. Also, is it possible to cross the GWB on a bike? I know that I can get over to Queens (my final destination) by taking the Brooklyn bridge, but getting into Manhattan from NJ is something I don't know how to do. Any suggestions?
D*Alex,
I knew there was a reason I stumbled into this forum!
Do you plan to ride thru Highland Park (over bridge from
Poughkeepsie), New Paltz, NYAK etc. to get to
N.J? I believe there are walkways on the G.W. but
you'll need to be careful in some of the neighborhoods
you'll be into. I don't think you can do any of the tunnels
into Manhattan from N.J. which leaves either G.W. and
head south or Verazanno and back up north from brooklyn.
Staten Island Ferry to lower manhattan may be an idea
if you need to go to manhattan.
Where in Queens is your final destination?
Marty
Well, I'm planning on staying in Gutenburg, right off of 1&9. Maybe I can take the pallisades pkwy, or at least follow it?
My final destination is Rockaway, so the GWB to Manhattan, Brooklyn Bridge to Bklyn, down Flatbush to Riis park is the way I'm thinking of going.
hey you will be in my neck of the woods you can cross the GBW
great bike paths in the Manhattan. one that takes you down to Battery Park and one that takes you to Central park get in touch with me and I will Join you. or make a cue sheet.
