Hello everyone,

I am new to tandeming, but have been a roadie for 20 yrs. On our last tandem ride, we had two flats. The second flat was due to underinflation after replacing the tube.
I have used a Silca pump for years, and getting 100-110 psi on the single bike was okay, but it wasn't enough on the tandem. What is a good frame pump for a tandem? What about C02?

We are riding on 28 mm Conti Ultra 2000 at 120 psi.

Thanks

We've been using the same frame pump for our tandem that we used for our previous bikes. A Zefal HPX pump that can go up to about 130 lbs. PSI. Has never failed us yet.

We've got one of those Sigma pumps that turn into a little floor pump and have a gauge. Pretty slick, and works well.

The Topeak Mountain Morph fits on the tandem and turns into a mini-floor pump. 100 pump strokes gets us 100 lbs in a 700x23 tire. 'Almost' a pleasure to get a flat!

Yep: Zefal HPX works great. Fits the bike, 120+lbs/square in., etc. Reliable, relatively cheap, don't have to worry whether it's charged or not.

We carry an HPX on our tandem, but it's a lot of work to bring a tire up to full pressure. The last couple of flats I've had on the road I've inflated with co2. Couple'a seconds is all that it takes and it's done. Almost feels like cheating cause it's too easy.

We use a Topeak Road Morph (with guage) on the Tandem. When we get a flat in a "safe" area we use the pump. If "unsafe" area like traffic, suburb, late in the day etc we use CO2 bombs to do a quick fix.
